The Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada announces that Tekken 7 has recently crossed a brand-new impressive sales milestone. The Tekken series has been one of the popular fighting game properties in the past decade, with the seventh entry in the series being a massive success in the competitive fighting game space. Lauded for its intricate mechanics and roster, it received a lot of post-launch support and DLC. This includes 4 seasons of DLC for Tekken 7, including a variety of guest fighters like Noctis from Final Fantasy 15, Geese Howard from Fatal Fury, and even Negan from The Walking Dead.This massive success for Tekken 7 was reflected in the game's sales, which are higher than any other previous entry. The previous recorded sales milestone for Tekken 7 was 8 million copies sold, which was after the release of the new Definitive and Originals Digital Editions of the game were listed for sale. Now the series has crossed yet another threshold, not only making it one of the best-selling entries in the franchise, but also one of the best-selling fighting games of all time.RELATED: Tekken 8 Director States Gameplay Will Be More 'Aggressive'This Tekken 7 milestone was announced on Harada's Twitter account, where he states that the game has managed to sell over 10 million copies. This also means that the entire Tekken series has sold over 54 million copies, and he thanked the fans for their long-standing support. A piece of celebratory art was also posted to his account, which showed off the full roster.

This makes Tekken 7 the sixth best-selling fighting game of all time, sitting comfortably among some of the other heavy hitters like Street Fighter 2. The current crown holder of this sales milestone is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with 29.53 million units sold, while Street Fighter 2 is at 15.5 million units. The other games in this top five include Mortal Kombat 11, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mortal Kombat X.

With support for Tekken 7 having run its course, Bandai Namco is currently working on the next numbered mainline entry. Tekken 8 recently got a new trailer at The Game Awards 2022 show, which gave fans a brief look at the gameplay and story beats. According to Harada, Tekken 8 takes place six months after the events of the previous game, after the defeat of Heihachi Mishima at the hands of Kazuya, where Jin Kazama will take on his father in a long-awaited rematch.

Tekken 7 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
