The arrival of Sony's newly-structured PS Plus service has brought plenty of classic games from throughout PlayStation history to modern consoles. The new PS Plus model gives Premium-tier subscribers access to a massive library of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP, including titles like Ape Escape and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Many of these games have also been made available for individual purchase for non-subscribers. However, fans quickly noticed classic fighting game Tekken 2 came with a ridiculous price tag.

Throughout Tekken's storied history spanning seven main-series entries, Tekken 2 has remained a fan favorite from the franchise's early days. The classic fighting game saw multiple re-releases following its arcade debut in 1995, being ported to the PS1 the next year and later brought to the PS3 and PSP through the PlayStation Store. However, with the discontinuation of Sony's "PS1 Classics" line after the Vita, Tekken 2 was unavailable to play on modern PlayStation consoles until now. However, players not subscribed to PS Plus quickly noticed the game's store page sported an oddly high price of $9,999.99.

Sony's recent addition of the new PS Plus classic games to the store saw Tekken 2 appear with an exorbitant nearly $10,000 price tag to the amusement of fans. Many Tekken fans took to Twitter poking fun at the price, and even Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada joined in the fun, jokingly praising Sony's pricing of the fighting game. The game's erroneous listing is made especially peculiar when fans realized that Tekken 2 was not intended to be available for purchase outside a PS Plus subscription.

The classic Namco fighting game was apparently not the only game to fall victim to the nearly $10,000 price tag. Other fans noticed that another Namco title saw a similar issue with the puzzle game Mr. Driller, which was also listed for $10,000 while not intended to be available for purchase. This is not the first time Sony platforms have seen a $10,000 issue as a bug last year caused developer Spiders' RPG GreedFall to be listed for the same price. The price issue with both Tekken 2 and Mr. Driller has since been resolved with both games now properly prompting a PS Plus subscription.

While Tekken 2 brings a classic from Tekken's early days to modern consoles, many Tekken fans have already started to look towards the future. While Bandai Namco has yet to announce Tekken 8, last year's Tekken 7: Definitive Edition likely marked the end for the seventh main-series game. Meanwhile, Capcom also recently revealed Street Fighter's next major entry will be coming next year with Street Fighter 6. Tekken fans are hopeful Tekken 2's arrival to modern consoles will soon be joined by the long-awaited reveal of Tekken 8.

Tekken 2 is available now for PS4 and PS5 with a PS Plus Premium subscription.
