From the various promotional material shown off so far, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge looks to be bringing the golden era of side-scroller arcade beat 'em ups back into the modern age. TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, which was revealed over a month ago by French game developer and publisher Dotemu, looks to capture the classic, retro spirit of some of the most iconic TMNT media.

However, the game was initially revealed to be coming to PC and an unspecified list of consoles. Now, today's Nintendo Indie Showcase event has confirmed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is also coming to Nintendo Switch, thanks to a brand new trailer shown off during the live stream.

The trailer gives players a brief look at some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge gameplay, showcasing various stages and enemy types. The trailer begins with an introduction by Jean-Francis Major of developer Tribute Games and Cyrille Imbert of Dotemu, that sets up the gameplay footage and gives a bit of background on how the game came to be. Imbert says the team took direct inspiration from classic TMNT games like Turtles in Time, in terms of both the gameplay and visual design. It's clear to see as well, as the modern pixel art style and animation looks absolutely stunning throughout this newest gameplay trailer.

The trailer itself introduces the Turtles, starting with Leonardo, followed by Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. Naturally, each Turtle looks to have their own unique playstyle, with Leonardo favoring quick and powerful sword slashes when compared to Michelangelo's heavy-hitting nunchuk swings. Additionally, the trailer gives looks at various enemy types, with famous TMNT enemies like Foot Soldiers and even a brief glimpse of both Bepob and Rocksteady. While many of the Foot Soldier's designs appear similar, the type and variety of Foot Soldiers look extremely varied.

Additionally, it's clear that TMNT: Shredder's Revenge takes inspiration from arcade-era beat 'em ups, as evident through elements of the UI, 2D movement, and art style. However, it has also clearly refined that style as evident through the quality of the animations throughout. Though the trailer confirmed the game would be coming to Nintendo Switch, there was no specific release date given at the end of the trailer. Thankfully, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is still slated to be launching later this year.

While the game wasn't originally announced for the Switch, this reveal comes as no surprise considering the massive successes that indie titles have experienced on Switch. Shredder's Revenge looked to be a perfect fit for Nintendo's hybrid console, so it was only a matter of time before this announcement came. While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was certainly a highlight of the Nintendo Indie Showcase live stream, plenty of other great games were shown alongside it. Interested players should absolutely check out the full stream VOD on Nintendo's official YouTube channel.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge will launch on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
