Teen Wolf: The Movie has released a new trailer featuring several original cast members ahead of its 2023 release on Paramount Plus. The trailer, which premiered during the upcoming movie’s panel at Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, serves as a first look at some of these returning characters.

Loosely based on the teen rom-com of the same name from the ’80s, 2011’s supernatural teen drama Teen Wolf ran for six seasons on MTV, telling the story of a young teen who becomes a werewolf after being bitten by someone afflicted with the curse. He eventually becomes a hero who protects his hometown from supernatural threats and mishaps. The series was a major success, garnering a strong and loyal fanbase and exceeding the fan interest of the movie that inspired it, despite the 1985 film being such a cult classic that there is a Teen Wolf easter egg in Grand Theft Auto 5.

Now, the well-loved TV series is looking to make some feature-length impact with Teen Wolf: The Movie, which fans learned about in 2021 when Paramount announced that the franchise was being revived. More recently, a new trailer for the upcoming Paramount Plus movie was released, featuring returning members of the cast, such as Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Colton Haynes, and Tyler Hoechlin, working with the script written by Jeff Davis, who is also producing the film. The trailer is now available on the Paramount Plus YouTube channel with the caption, “When a terrifying new evil emerges, Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and the rest of his pack return to Beacon Hills. Scott rounds up the Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and other shapeshifters of the night. With the help of his new allies, trusted friends, and the return of a long-lost love, Scott and his pack just might stand a chance.”

The Teen Wolf movie traile is full of intriguing hooks for fans of the series, showing the return of Crystal Reed's Allison, seemingly foreshadowing some darker power at play that forces the old gang back to rally around Tyler Posey's Scott. While the character is no longer a teenager, he is still the leader, exclaiming, “I’m still standing. I’m still the Alpha.” The mood surrounding the trailer carries much the same excitement that the fandom experienced after the Teen Wolf movie dropped its first clip in October.

Fans of the MTV series are sure to be excited by this new entry into the franchise 12 years on from its original debut and likely even more pleased with the role reprisals, which clear in May when it was announced that the movie had added original star Hoechlin to the cast. Russell Mulcahy, who was deeply involved with the original series, has also been confirmed to be on board as the director, going the extra mile to assure fans that whatever the film presents will be faithful to the beloved series.

Despite the fanfare around the returning stars and new content, the situation isn’t perfect, as Arden Cho declined the offer to reprise her role from the original series, opening up about why she turned down the movie by citing pay inequality and an abrupt removal while working on the show. Fellow former castmate Dylan O'Brien also declined to reprise his role, with many speculating that he did so in solidarity with Cho.

Teen Wolf: The Movie is set to start streaming on Paramount Plus on January 26, 2023.
