Teen Wolf: The Movie is on the way to Paramount Plus for streaming very soon, but series actor Dylan O'Brien, who portrayed Stiles Stilinski, will not be returning to reprise his fan favorite role.

When MTV's supernatural teen drama series Teen Wolf aired its last episode back in 2017, fans were sad. However, the Teen Wolf movie brightened the spirits of those who were hoping for at least a spinoff series. To promote the upcoming reunion film for Paramount Plus, the cast appeared at San Diego Comic-Con, as they used to do for each season of the original series.

In an interview with MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con, the show's creator Jeff Davis, along with stars Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin, discussed OBrien's absence from the upcoming film. All three of the men agree that although O'Brien is absent from the film, his presence is still felt throughout. Davis even references the Blue Jeep that Stiles drove in the original series, revealing that they actually had to borrow the Jeep from O'Brien for shooting the film. When asked if it was weird to film the movie without O'Brien, Posey reveals that the absence is a lot. However, he references one of the last seasons of the original show where O'Brien was gone while shooting the Maze Runner trilogy, saying he's had to “carry the show” on his back before.

Although not returning to reprise his role in the upcoming film, O'Brien has made sure to pay homage to Teen Wolf. He's made it known that the series not only launched his acting career but also gave him amazing friendships like the one he has with Posey. O'Brien has also made it clear in multiple interviews that his not appearing in the movie is the honest truth, despite fans speculating that he still might have a cameo.

O'Brien has been attached to many other projects over the past few years, like his role in Taylor Swift's All Too Well: Short Film and his most recent role in Hulu's dramedy film Not Okay. As Teen Wolf: The Movie gears up for its release this fall, fans of the MTV series and the 1985 film of the same name on which it’s loosely based will get to see what's next for the supernatural characters of Beacon Hills, as they learn what they’ve all been up to since the show left the air in 2017.

Teen Wolf: The Movie is scheduled to be released on Paramount Plus in 2022.
