Fans of Team Fortress 2's glory days rejoice, the modders behind the Team Fortress 2 Classic mod have reached a point where they're comfortable "launching." The mod, which removes much of the clutter and cosmetics from modern Team Fortress 2, can now be downloaded and played by anyone who currently owns the game.

Team Fortress 2 Classic is a mod intended to revisit what's often seen as the best years of Team Fortress 2. The 2008-2009 period of the game before cosmetics took over the experience and the hats meme just became the status quo. That doesn't mean that the Team Fortress 2 Classic mod won't feature new content, however. Rather, it's like a new development timeline is starting off from 2009 without Valve's monetization.

Over the past four days, the modders from Eminoma Team detailed Team Fortress 2 Classic's final big pre-launch update, titled The Death & Taxes Update. The update details a variety of "new " content being added to Team Fortress 2 Classic, including several new game modes, 9 new weapons, and a bunch of new maps, too.

The Team Fortress 2 Classic mod's beta has been ongoing for several years now, but today's update puts the beta to rest. It took a lot of work, as well as splintering Deathmatch off into a separate game from a separate team, but the work is complete. Enimona does say it plans to continue updating the mode going forward.

Team Fortress 2 Classic is available to download now on PC.
