Tales of Arise is far from a farming simulator, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some leisurely activities found in the world of Dahna. For example, Tales of Arise players can go fishing or they can manage their ranch.

The ranch, in particular, provides players with required meats and foods that can keep the players constantly cooking. As such, taking care of the ranch in Tales of Arise isn’t just fun and leisurely, it’s helpful. Running the ranch takes some know-how, though, so here’s everything fans need to know.

Tales of Arise: How to Unlock the Ranch

When traveling to Viscint, the capital of Elde Menancia, players will come across an injured man on the road, and he’s hard to miss. After curing him with Shionne, players will be gifted the ranch, something Tales of Arise’s Law is super excited about.

Tales of Arise: What Animals Can You Raise?

Once players have unlocked the ranch, they will be able to raise Chickens, Pigs, and Cows. They will begin with three slots on the ranch for raising these animals, but more animals and more barn slots will unlock as players continuously input and harvest animals. Eventually, players will have a max of five slots and will have unlocked, in this order, Horses, Sheep, and Rappigs (rabbit pigs). The Horses won’t take but a couple of harvests, but the Sheep take a while, and then it’s a bit after for the Rappigs. Players should just keep at it and, eventually, they’ll have them all.

Tales of Arise Types of Feed

After selecting the animal to raise, Tales of Arise players will then need to select a feed for them. The feed is pretty on the nose, as the more Gald (the Tales of Arise currency) spent in-game, the faster the feed helps raise livestock. Standard Feed is free, but it is the slowest. Fattening Feed and Speed Feddy differ only slightly, with Fattening recommended for larger livestock (Pigs, Cow, Rappigs), and both of which cost 300 Gald.

Then, there’s Miracle Feed, which is the most expensive at 600 Gald but has the fastest maturing time of all for all animals. It’s easily the most recommend feed, but it is the most expensive and it adds up quickly. If players are trying to save Gald for one of Alphen’s new weapons, or anyone’s really, then it’s better to stick to the cheaper feed. It’s slower, but that’s the only real downside.

Tales of Arise Guard Livestock: How Do Cats and Dogs Work?

For the most part, guarding livestock isn’t something Tales of Arise players should worry too much about. The default defense of two dogs and two cats will most likely be enough for the majority of the game. Specifically, though, dogs chase off wild Zeugles who would hurt the animals, while cats chase away mice. Players can even chase things off themselves, but if they see an uptick or whatever, it wouldn’t hurt to add an extra cat for mice or an extra dog for Zeugles, but it’s not something that will make or break the farm.

Overall, not only is the ranch gameplay of Tales of Arise fun, but it’s rewarding. Besides the meat, players can unlock Titles for Law, new outfits, and more as long as they keep ranching.

Tales of Arise is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
