Borderlands is indubitably Gearbox’s flagship IP, catapulting the developer to popularity beyond previous titles and spawning tons of content. Not only has Borderlands gone through a full trilogy of mainline games with a fourth presumably on the way at some point, but it’s getting a movie and has seen spin-offs like Tales from the Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

While Wonderlands released not long ago, it seems there’s more Borderlands content around the corner. It seemed unlikely that Tales from the Borderlands would ever receive a sequel after the closure and corporate rebirth of Telltale Games, but Gearbox still has more stories it wants to tell with these characters. Earlier this year, Gearbox and 2K Games announced they were working on a Tales from the Borderlands sequel, but outside a 2022 release window, not much else was confirmed.

Now, however, it seems fans could reasonably expect a full-blown reveal of Tales From the Borderlands 2 (or whatever it is officially called) pretty soon. “New Tales from the Borderlands” and “New Tales from the Borderlands Deluxe Edition” has been rated in Korea, as reported by Gematsu, and so it would seem the official title could be New Tales from the Borderlands similar to New Pokemon Snap.

It was rated Adult in Korea for excessive violence, profanity, drugs, alcohol, and a few other points, none of which is surprising for a Borderlands game. What may be more important is that ratings typically come ahead of major marketing developments, release date reveals, and more. For example, God of War Ragnarok just got its release date a few days ago, and it was rated in late May (and the release date reveal was reportedly planned for late June until slipping into early July).

Of course, fans are still waiting for more of God of War Ragnarok but had also seen more of the game than fans have seen of the Tales from the Borderlands sequel. It could come sooner, it could come later, but it does seem everything is on track for the sequel.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Gearbox-developed title differs from the original Tales game, given the change over in companies. Still, for fans of classic Telltale games, it’s likely to retain a lot of that original charm. Meanwhile, Telltale Games is also working on its first major title since it was reborn, and it’s one many fans are excited about – The Wolf Among Us 2.

A Tales from the Borderlands sequel is scheduled for 2022.
