While still a relatively young developer, Hazelight Studios is already carving out a place for itself in gaming with its focus on story-driven, couch co-op adventures. The studio's debut game, A Way Out, was a critical hit in 2018 and over 3.5 million copies were sold. Hazelight shows no signs of slowing down as the studio's newest game, It Takes Two, is selling very well.

It Takes Two follows Cody and May, a married couple on the verge of divorce transformed into two of their daughter's dolls and embark on an adventure to return to normal and potentially fix their marriage. The game's co-op mechanics are reminiscent of A Way Out, with both characters on screen having to work together to solve various puzzles and avoid the dangers of this small world.

On the official Hazelight Studios Twitter, the studio said the game sold well in its first month, selling over one million units. Hazelight did not share the exact sales numbers but thanked everyone who bought the game and helped make it another hit for the growing studio. The tweet also appeared to tease sales numbers were still strong heading into the second month.

While it remains to be seen if It Takes Two will surpass A Way Out's sales, the strong month is a good sign for Hazelight. Outside of Nintendo, co-op games encouraging a couch experience are more sparse on PlayStation and Xbox than they used to be. This is understandable given how far online play has come in the last 15 years, but there is still something to be said about enjoying a game with friends or family in person. It's games like It Takes Two that prove these titles still have a place on Xbox and PlayStation and will hopefully encourage more studios to invest in similarly-styled co-op games.

It Takes Two is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X.
