Tactics Ogre: Reborn has a metric ton of customizability in terms of armor, skills, weapons, finishers and so on. Someone new to the genre can understandably be overwhelmed by all this at first. There’s so much variety that it can be hard to know where to start.

When it comes to melee weapons, there are a lot of different types, ranging from one and two-handed swords, to spears, fists, hammers, axes and spears. Each weapon type has its own unique qualities and advantages. Be that as it may, these are some of the best weapons a player should consider overall, as drop rates and other requirements can be quite frustrating. This list focuses exclusively on easily obtainable weapons.

8 Zweihander

Fighting a battle in Tactics Ogre Reborn

This two-handed sword can be wielded by the warrior, terror knight, white knight, lord, and buccaneer classes. It’s definitely one of the best weapons in the game considering how early it is available and how many classes can wield it.

Moreover, the Zweihander can be forged to be made even stronger. It's not too expensive either, and doesn’t weigh as much as other swords. A warrior with an upgraded Zweihander can remain powerful with that weapon until near the end of the game, before needing an upgrade.

7 Heavy Axe

Fighting a battle in Tactics Ogre Reborn

The Heavy Axe has one of the highest attack stats in the game. It holds up stat wise against some of the late-game options and some of the unique weapons as well.

The Heavy Axe is, as the name suggests, a bit heavy, and it is not recommended in every situation. However, the raw damage it grants makes it very useful. It can be a huge damage steroid for under-leveled units players are trying to train as well.

6 Dirk

The dirk is a dagger that can be wielded by several classes in the game, including the unique ranger class, which thrives with it. The dirk can be crafted to give it added stats and benefits as well. This weapon is highly damaging as far as daggers go, and it is extremely light as well.

What makes it really special, though, is the ability it has to inflict silence on an enemy. In the hands of a ranger who can attack twice, this ability is lethal and can quickly change the entire battle. This would also make it easier to protect guest or NPC characters, and aid a player in their recruitment troubles.

5 Rosebud Whip

Tactics Ogre Reborn Gameplay

This is by far the best whip in the game, and one of the best weapons out there period. The rosebud whip is Ozma, The Dark Knight commander’s, personal weapon. It is extremely impressive and has an ice affinity attached to it as well.

The weapon grants +5 res as well, and works really well in combination with Ozma’s own stats. Equally, it can be utilized by beast masters and warriors to good effect.

4 Volcano

The Warren Report in Tactics Ogre Reborn

This spear is Cerya’s personal weapon, and the player gets it when she is recruited in the neutral route. The weapon in itself, whilst somewhat heavy, boasts superb stats and even grants defensive bonuses.

Giving this spear to someone such as Jeunan or Raveness can make it ever better. However, it’s still a good fit on Cerya as well.

3 Phalanx Hammer

Fighting a battle in Tactics Ogre Reborn

This one-handed hammer is dropped by one of the knights in the Royal City of Heim battles. Specifically, Knight Vermado in the second fight at the Southern Hall wields it. This is quite a difficult battle, owing largely to the hammer itself.

Phalanx is a great weapon. It boasts the earth affinity, has really high damage, and grants bonus stats to the wielder. The key factor here is that it’s a one-handed weapon. This is important if the player uses Vartans, and more specifically Canopus. Phalanx allows Canopus to wield a one-handed hammer with high damage, and a bow as well. This makes one of the best units in the game even better.

2 Isberg

The character menu in Tactics Ogre Reborn

Gildas, one of Sir Lancelot’s knights, joins Denam’s party in Chapter 3 of the law and chaos routes. And he comes bearing gifts. Not only is he a fantastic unit with a fantastic class, but he also has one of the best weapons in the game.

This two-handed sword grants immunity to stun, which is a ridiculously powerful buff. On top of this it has high damage, and decent dexterity stats too.

1 Brynhild

Tactics Ogre Gameplay

This is by far the best sword in the game. So, it makes sense that the player only gets it late into the game, after defeating one of the games major antagonists.

Brynhild is a one-handed sword but has incredible stats. It grants +50 attack, and it gives its wielder resistance against light and dark magic. This sword is incredible, and players should definitely use it when they get the chance.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn was released on November 11, 2022, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
