Star Wars: The Old Republic is known for its variability and for allowing multiple opportunities for players to role-play and make their characters as noble or as vile as they wish, which is represented in the force alignment. Notably, it is not restricted by class, and it is possible to play a dark-aligned Jedi or a light-aligned Sith if the player so wishes.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Dev Is Getting Sold for $500 Million

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake's developer is being sold, creating another potential setback for the already troubled development.

While in the original game, the choices were dependent on one’s class due to each unique story, by the time the story reached the Knights of the Fallen Empire/Eternal Throne expansions (KOTFE and KOTET), each class partook in a shared storyline. Its choices are something the characters of every class will have to make, and those two expansions provide ample opportunity for some of the most ruthless dark-side decisions in the game.

10 Keeping Dramath Prisoner

Prolonging The Suffering Of An Ancient Spirit

Nathema in Star Wars: The Old Republic
Nathema

In chapter 7 of KOTET, the player visits the desolate world of Nathema, the homeworld of the Sith Emperor. They see the extent to which Vaylin and Valkorion’s other prisoners suffered, with one of the most notable examples being the spirit of his father, lord Dramath, who Valkorion trapped in a Holocron.

The player talks with Dramath, and the latter reveals the possibility of defeating Tenebrae, asking for freedom in return. The player can fulfill his wish or prolong his endless suffering by keeping him in the Holocron. Even though this decision gives the Outlander an additional companion in chapter 9, it’s still quite ruthless in its nature.

9 Humiliating Arcann And Senya

Turning A Matter Of Justice Into Spiteful Vengeance

Arcann in Star Wars: The Old Republic

The most impactful choice the player will make in those expansions is in Chapter 1 of KOTET, when the player can either redeem Arcann or kill him. While killing him isn’t an inherently evil act, considering the billions of lives he took during his time as a tyrant, how the player goes about it can vary.

The player can choose to humiliate Senya before her death, rubbing the fact that she failed in her face, making her last moments agonizing. Similarly, during Arcann’s execution, the player can kill him efficiently and quickly with one strike or make it slow and painful with three strikes. Similarly, with Vaylin, despite her villainy, the insults and humiliation the Outlander can hurl at her and her family are recontextualized with the knowledge of how Valkorion victimized them.

8 Killing Koth

A Merciless Punishment

Koth can leave a different impression on people depending on their play style. If the Outlander is primarily light-sided, Koth will be a loyal ally who supports them. However, if the Outlander harms his people, Koth will eventually leave the Alliance and steal the Gravestone. In this case, the player will get an opportunity to kill him in KOTET.

The Knights of the Old Republic Remake is Long Overdue a Proper Update

With two years having passed since its announcement, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is long overdue for an official update.

While executing a traitor is understandable, especially for dark-sided characters, Koth had no malice in his intentions and simply stood up for his people and principles, something he made clear early in the chapters. His death is tragic, and even Lana can’t help but show her pain.

7 Withholding The Information From The Mandalorians

Sabotaging Your Allies

Star Wars the Old Republic Shae Vizla Mandalore the Avenger Cropped

In chapter 14 of KOTFE, the Outlander comes in contact with Mandalorians and unites their forces with the Alliance in a battle against the Eternal Empire. All of this culminates in a raid on the factory in search of GEMINI Prime. However, the outcome of this battle for Mandalorians depends on the player.

Lana proposes withholding the factory schematics from them to avoid emboldening people she considers dangerous and savage. If the player agrees, Mandalorians will suffer many casualties during the battle, and while they will still be victorious, their overall morale will fall quite a bit. If the player shares the schematics, Mandalorians are far more triumphant.

6 Killing Aric Or Kaliyo

A Ruthless Execution

Companion Kaliyo

Another notable case of a merciless and arguably unearned execution is a relatively niche choice in chapter 13 of KOTFE. If either Kaliyo or Aric disobeyed Outlander’s orders prior and acted of their own volition, the player gets an opportunity to kill the rebellious ally.

Operations are the pinnacle of end game content in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and these operations are the best in the entire game.

Both kills are executed in a cold, calculated fashion. The Outlander shows no signs of remorse for either of their deaths, leaving other Alliance members to stand there and watch in horror. Despite occasional missteps, Kaliyo and Aric are loyal servants of the Alliance, and getting rid of them in such a fashion is overkill.

5 Sending Zakuulan Rebels To Their Death

Showing Disregard For Potential Allies

Arcann in Star Wars: The Old Republic

A choice in chapter 6 of KOTET, this one allows the Outlander to decide how much they care about their allies on Zakuul. After Arcann breaches Vaylin’s party, and the player saves Indo Zal from the rancor, they can either order rebels to get to safety or charge into the battle — despite being unprepared to fight the knights.

This choice determines how those rebels will see the Outlander in the future. If the player chooses to sacrifice them in vain, many lose their faith, and Indo Zal remains wounded and without his allies.

4 Letting The Reactor Explode

Showing No Concern For Civilians

Vaylin in Star Wars: The Old Republic

This choice is one of the earliest major decisions the player must make, taking place in chapter 3 of KOTFE. As they are running away from Vaylin, she damages a nuclear reactor in an attempt to block the Outlander’s way, which is about to cause a catastrophic explosion. It’s up to the Outlander whether to intervene or run away.

If the player chooses to help, they can save countless lives by stopping the explosion, but they would waste some valuable time. If they leave the reactor, countless civilians will die. Even though this explosion isn’t the Outlander’s fault, the dark side choice shows indifference toward innocents and how ready The Outlander is to endanger them.

3 Killing Zakuulan Refugees

Culling The Witnesses

Not all choices that end up harming civilians result from Outlander standing aside. In chapter 4 of KOTFE, they meet a group of Zakuulan refugees who have been exiled by Arcann and are begging the Outlander to grant them shelter. The player can either accept them or leave them.

However, if the Outlander is dark-aligned, there will be an additional choice. HK will observe that something is on the Outlander’s mind, after which the player can give him the order to kill those people. This is one of the most cruel executions, as the refugees are completely innocent.

2 Becoming The Emperor

Replacing One Tyrant With Another

Valkorion in Star Wars: The Old Republic

The last choice the players must make in these expansions is in KOTET chapter 9. After defeating Valkorion, the Outlander has the eternal throne in their possession and chooses whether to become a peacekeeper or a tyrannical emperor. The latter is the darkside option, which the player can choose.

20 Years Later, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic's Lightsaber is Still Burning Bright

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is 20 years old today, but despite its age, KOTOR still remains one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

If the Outlander becomes the Emperor, the people of Zakuul watch in despair as Arcann and Vaylin are replaced by a similar power-hungry tyrant, leading to a continuation of a totalitarian and oppressive era. The Outlander transfers the Eternal Throne to Odessen and cements it as the seat of power of a new dictatorship, the Eternal Alliance.

1 Blowing Up The Spire

Indulging In Mass Terrorism

MixCollage-03-Jun-2024-05-43-PM-6326

A choice similar to the one with the reactor occurs in chapter 10 of KOTFE, but this time, the Outlander is directly involved. After spending a chapter with Kaliyo preparing to raid the Overwatch, she reveals that she’s preparing to set off an explosion that will cause irreparable damage and slaughter civilians.

This choice is easily avoidable but allows the dark-side Outlander to commit a mass act of terrorism, which ends up turning Zakuulans away from them. A prime example is Koth, who leaves the Alliance if the Outlander blows the spire. Senya also expresses stark disapproval of Kaliyo’s methods.
