Finding stone, a basic resource, is surprisingly hard in Survival: Fountain of Youth. Players will encounter tons and tons of rocky outcrops, mountains, and beach stones in the game, but if they look closer, they’ll find that these gigantic stones are not mineable.

Players need to find special interactable locations called Stone Deposits or Stone Piles to get Stones, but these deposits are somewhat sparse in the game, making them difficult to encounter by chance. Luckily, there is a way players can find Stones - and other resources - with ease. Here’s how.

Sailing between the various islands in Survival: Fountain Of Youth can be very time-consuming, so players may want to learn how to fast-travel.

Map the Whole Island

The first thing players need to do before they start searching for any resources is to map the whole area. Doing so will highlight all available resources on that island on the map, letting players know where they need to go in order to find things - stones included.

Mapping is best done by climbing the Cartographer trees spread out in the region, but this is not a requirement. If players have mapping charcoal handy, they can open the map anywhere and select the mapping button at the bottom to reveal all resources in their immediate area. Doing so in elevated places will result in a larger radius of the area being mapped, but if the resource you want is directly underneath you, doing it right then might be worth it as well. After all, Mapping Charcoal is cheap.

After everything is mapped, look for the icon for Stone Piles and Massive Stones. These are the only two ways of obtaining stone in Survival: Fountain of Youth.

How to Find Stone Piles in Survival: Fountain of Youth

Stone Piles are small, crumbling mounds of small stones. Players will be able to tell a Stone Pile apart from regular stones by the glossy sheen the game overlays over interactable objects. Stone Piles can only be found on pure white stone outcrops, visible from a distance (screenshot above).

Once players find a Stone Pile, they can harvest stones without any tools at the cost of a little bit of energy. Each Stone weighs 2 units, so keep a close eye on your carry limit and drop excess stones if encumbrance gets too high.

Stone Piles respawn in 13 days.

How to Find Massive Stones in Survival: Fountain of Youth

Massive Stones are large, round balls of white stone found in the overworld or as Stone Deposits of large white stones. These look exactly like the white stone outcroppings that house Stone Piles, but instead of only a small pile of stones being interactable, the entire deposit can be harvested. Each Stone Deposit contains 9-12 Massive Stones. Players can break down these Massive Stones into smaller, regular stones to be used in simple recipes from the Crafting menu. Each Massive Stone can be turned into 4 smaller Stones.

Stone Deposits can only be harvested with a Pick Axe.

To find the recipe, open your inventory and click on the Massive Stone, then click on Blueprints. This will open up all possible items that can be created using a Massive Stone. Pick the 4 Stones recipe to break down the stone.

Breaking down a Massive Stone comes with the downside of putting players at a risk of injury (roughly 21% in Normal difficulty ). If this chance triggers, players will receive a minor injury like a Minor Cut that can be healed by basic medicine.

These stones weigh a ton, so picking them up and hoarding them is not a viable strategy. Players will need to either increase their carry weight capacity drastically or only use what they need and leave the rest.
