Superman: Legacy is set to begin production soon, and The Engineer actor María Gabriela de Faría has been working hard to prepare herself physically to shoot.

It's been nearly a year since James Gunn announced Superman: Legacy and its 2025 release. He later confirmed that he would helm the superhero movie. However, the production had not started yet due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but shortly after it concluded, De Faría was announced to be joining the project as Angie Spica, aka DC's The Engineer.

De Faría teased fans about her preparation for Superman: Legacy by sharing a mirror selfie during a workout session on her Instagram Story. The 31-year-old actress rocked a sports bra, leaving her mid-section exposed. Fans immediately noticed her toned midsection, which some jokingly called the "abs of steel."

De Faría didn't leave fans guessing what she was preparing for because, in the caption, she confirmed that she was prepping for a "wild shoot," alluding to the Superman: Legacy. "She wasn't dead or partying. What I'm in is the final stretch to start a wild shoot," the actress wrote in Spanish and translated by a fan on X in English. Production on Superman: Legacy is expected to begin in March, so it's only a few weeks away. Meanwhile, fans were excited to see The Engineer and anticipated seeing her in several action scenes, given how the actress had prepared for the role physically. One online user speculated that De Faría could be working out because she has many action scenes or was looking too far into things.

De Faría's The Engineer is billed as the villain in Gunn's film. So, it's understandable that she's preparing for the shoot physically because she will likely find herself in combat with David Corenswet's Clark Kent/Superman. Angie is a member of the Authority, and she has a liquid body due to the nanomites in her bloodstream, but she can produce solid objects using her metal blood. She has a fascinating persona and background. Angie had been obsessed with superheroes since she was 7 years old and dreamed of helping others like her superhero idols. However, in a twist of fate, she seemingly landed on the other end of the spectrum — the enemies she disapproved of.

The Authority considers themselves superheroes, but they employ questionable strategies. Angie is the second character to appear as Engineer. Stormwatch introduced the original Engineer as a technological genius who was misguided. He wanted to free the world from using nanotechnology. Stormwatch resorted to killing him using a biological acid bomb to stop him. However, he successfully sent his technology to a young protégé, a girl named Angie Spica, to continue his mission. The Authority may share the same vision as the superheroes, but they do not respect the governing bodies of Earth, which puts them in conflict with the Justice League team. The Engineer has a utilitarian view and wants to use science for the benefit of the majority. She's so adept with working with machines that sometimes she struggles with human interactions. There is no doubt that De Faría's character is a must-watch in Superman:Legacy.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
