Superman: Legacy cast members Edi Gathegi and María Gabriela de Faría are already looking super ripped for their roles as Mister Terrific and new villain Angela Spica, a.k.a The Engineer, in James Gunn's highly anticipated DCU flick. Even for those who aren't playing Superman, a cut physique is essential to selling any superhero role.

In November, personal trainer to the stars Paolo Mascitti shared an Instagram photo of the Superman: Legacy lead actor David Corenswet in the gym, showing off his bulging biceps and bulked-up proportions with the caption: "The Legacy." Comments on the post were centered around how much Corenswet resembled prior Superman actor Henry Cavill.

But Corenswet isn't the only one hitting the free weights. According to recent Instagram stories shared by Mascitti, actors Gathegi and de Faría are also taking their hero prep seriously. Gathegi's notably massive shoulders and pecs rival Mister Terrific's comic book depiction, with the actor's muscles appearing almost cartoonishly large in Mascitti's post. Over the years, several actors have portrayed and voiced Mister Terrific, including Echo Kellum and Michael Beach. However, the new image has fans excited to see Gathegi's interpretation of Michael Holt. De Faría also appears to have nailed the physique of her character, Angela Spica: The Engineer, who is a new villain for the DCU and a founding member of The Authority. Mascitti's videos showed action shots of de Faria in the gym, looking long, lean, and toned.

While the actors seem to be doing their due diligence in the gym to look the part, little is known about the upcoming DC Studios film. Gunn, DC Studios' new co-CEO, has said the film is not an origin story but will instead revolve around Superman's attempt to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his childhood as the boy from Kansas, Clark Kent. This new Superman film is part of Gunn's plan to inject Marvel magic into the flailing production company. Following recent box office flops like Blue Beetle and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Superman: Legacy may prove whether the new DCU plan will succeed in saving the studio. Its box office performance may even indicate the genre's future at large.

Given that even Marvel has been struggling lately due to box office bombs like The Marvels, Gunn's plan to connect the DCU movies like Marvel did with the MCU may be too little too late, as superhero fatigue seems to be in full swing. Only time will tell whether Superman: Legacy can end DC's slump era, but for now, all we can be sure of is that the actors are working hard in the gym to embody their beloved comic book characters.

Superman: Legacy will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
