Nintendo recently showcased Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a highly detailed Nintendo Direct presentation that revealed the rest of the base game's roster, touched on future DLC plans, and also showed off the new World of Light story mode. The game has a dizzying amount of content and between amiibos, a LAN adapter, and new controllers, it also has a lot of accessories. It's understandable that some fans may be having trouble keeping track of everything, and some may be wondering if their old accessories, like the GameCube controller adapter for Wii U, will work with the new Switch game.

There's been some confusion on that front, especially with Nintendo releasing a new GameCube controller adapter for the Switch, but it's been confirmed that yes, the GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U will work on the Switch. That means anyone who bought that controller adapter to play last generation's Smash game should be able to save some money if they want to use GameCube controllers with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.

Something else that may have gotten lost in the shuffle is that the GameCube controller adapter works with more than just wired GameCube controllers. The GameCube was famously one of the first times we saw wireless controllers in video gaming with the Wavebird, and assuming players still have their Wavebird and its receiver, they can use that when playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as well.

It's nice that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players will be able to use their old GameCube controllers and accessories to play the new game. However, some people may have gotten rid of their GameCube stuff long ago, or their controllers may not be in the best condition. Luckily, Nintendo has released a new line of GameCube controllers emblazoned with the Super Smash Bros. series logo, and those are currently available in stores for about $30 a pop. They also have the added benefit of working with GameCube consoles, so potential purchasers should keep that in mind.

Of course, GameCube controllers aren't the only option when it comes to controlling the vast roster of fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Players can also use standard Switch Joy-Con controllers, the Pro controller, and even a special Super Smash Bros.-branded Pro controller being released in conjunction with the game. All things considered, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players should have enough options to be able to play the game exactly how they want to play it.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on December 7, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
