While the main focus of today's presentation was to show off Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's newest character, Sephiroth, the Mii Fighter also got some love with new costumes to fit the theme. Though everyone expected some new costumes to be shown, the characters they represent ended up being quite a surprise.

Alongside every new character reveal in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there's also a new stage, several new music tracks, and of course some Mii Fighter costumes. When Steve from Minecraft was added, he came alongside Minecraft themed Mii Fighter costumes for Creeper, Pig, and Diamond Armor. As such, Sephiroth's showcase also adds new Mii Fighter costumes.

In total, Nintendo revealed five new costumes for Mii Fighters, but the most shocking one is Geno by far. While it's awesome to see these characters represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, their inclusion as Mii Fighters does have some implications for future DLC characters.

For starters, these characters are guaranteed to never become full-fledged fighters. Though unwritten rules about spirits never becoming fighters or 3rd party franchises only having one representative in the game have been smashed with recent DLC reveals, this one seems like a safe bet. Just like other Mii Fighter costumes before them (Sans, Bomberman, Knuckles to name a few), they will probably never rise beyond the status of Mii Fighter costume, at least not in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It's always possible that they could be included in a future Super Smash Bros. game, however.

All of the new Mii Fighter costumes are based on Square Enix characters, Nintendo revealed Tifa as a Brawler, Barrett as a Gunner, and Aerith as a Swordfighter, completing the iconic characters from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Addtionally, the Chocobo Mii costume returns, allowing any kind of Mii Fighter to wear the hat of this iconic series mascot. Finally, in a bitter sweet conclusion, Geno was revealed as the final Mii Fighter, officially dashing fans' hopes that he'd be a DLC character of his own.

These new Mii Fighter costumes should be a thrill for fans of the Final Fantasy games, and proponents for Geno in Smash at least have something now. There's also a new stage and 9 new Final Fantasy tracks, making a total of 11 songs from that franchise.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Switch.
