Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass DLC has brought a plethora of unique additions to the popular fighting game's massive roster. The two volumes of the newest Super Smash Bros. game's DLC has brought a mix of first-party Nintendo characters like Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Byleth and third-party characters like Dragon Quest's Hero. The expansion pass has even seen highly-requested characters like Kingdom Hearts' Sora join the fight. However, one of the most unexpected introductions to Super Smash Bros. came early in Vol. 2 with the reveal of Minecraft's Steve and Alex.

Steve and Alex were officially unveiled as new DLC coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in October 2020 with the Minecraft characters featuring plenty of references to the popular sandbox game. As with the rest of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster, Steve and Alex were confirmed to be receiving Amiibos based on their designs in the future. While Nintendo had originally planned the Minecraft Amiibos for a Spring 2022 launch, it had announced a delay in their production earlier this year. Now, Nintendo has officially revealed the new release date for the Steve and Alex Amiibos.

A tweet posted by Nintendo on Thursday officially revealed the new launch date for the upcoming Steve and Alex figures. The tweet reveals the new Amiibos are now set to release on September 9th, with the previous delay cited as being related to "logistics and production." A video alongside the announcement shows off the two figures with each character in their default pose. The Steve and Alex Amiibos mark the second release from Ultimate's second Fighters Pass with characters like Sora and Sephiroth still to come.

Steve and Alex make up just a few of a massive roster of third-party characters to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game's launch cast featured the return of popular characters like Metal Gear Solid's Snake and Final Fantasy 7's Cloud. Later DLC characters introduced franchises like Persona, Fatal Fury, and Tekken into the Super Smash Bros. universe. The game's two Fighters Pass DLC packs introduced more than ten characters to the game, pushing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's final roster count to a staggering 82 characters.

While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains one of the most popular games on the Switch, Nintendo has yet to reveal any information about a potential successor. Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai had previously stated in December that Nintendo was not planning a new Smash Bros. at that time. While Sakurai was open to the idea of returning to Super Smash Bros., he did admit that the scale of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be difficult to follow up. While a new Smash Bros. may not be in the works yet, Ultimate continues to be a fan-favorite among Switch owners.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
