Of all the characters that fans have been vying to make it onto Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Master Chief is at the top of many players' lists. With the inclusion of Steve from Minecraft was released as a DLC fighter in October of last year, it seemed likely that more Microsoft properties would make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

Halo's main protagonist, the Master Chief, has been at the forefront of the series since its inception. Over the years, Master Chief has evolved to become nothing short of a video game icon in the eyes of many in the gaming community. Assumedly, this makes him a very likely candidate for Super Smash Bros., but unfortunately, the Master Chief will be absent from the roster, for the time being at least.

Brian Jarrard, the community director over at 343 Industries, confirmed at this time that there are no plans for the Master Chief to come to Super Smash Bros. Although, Jarrard himself said that he wanted Master Chief to make an appearance in the game and later asked fans to politely let Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, and Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, know that they want Master Chief in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

For some fans, this news will be rather disappointing. Obviously, it's difficult to coordinate a crossover as ambitious as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate while still getting permission from certain publishers, as well as making the character work effectively within the gameplay. It was announced earlier today that Kazuya from Tekken would be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which will be sure to make several Tekken fans happy.

Though, in a lot of ways, a Tekken character is easier to insert into Smash Bros. as opposed to someone like Master Chief. Given that Kazuya already comes from a fighting game, his moveset in Smash Bros. likely wouldn't be that complex to recreate. Not to mention numerous characters from Bandai Namco have been featured in Super Smash Bros. already, in the form of Mii Fighter outfits and the inclusion of Pac-Man as a playable character.

However, that's not to say that Master Chief in Super Smash Bros. is a lost cause. The fact that Steve from Minecraft made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. goes to show that Microsoft and Nintendo are open to the idea of Microsoft characters appearing in Smash Bros. The fact that Jarrard and likely many other Xbox developers want Master Chief in the game is also a telling sign. It could simply come down to fans making their voices heard.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
