Nearly half a year ago at this point, Japanese website 5Channel reportedly leaked the entire Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC roster. This Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC leak claimed that Erdrick from Dragon Quest, Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, Steve from Minecraft, and DOOM Guy from Doom would be the fighters to follow Piranha Plant and Persona 5's Joker. At E3 2019, this leak was both legitimized and contradicted, making future DLC fighters less certain.

The E3 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation kicked off with a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reveal, confirming Erdrick from Dragon Quest to be the next DLC fighter for the ambitious crossover fighting game. Erdrick is a somewhat left-field choice for someone to just guess, especially since the leak was posted well before Dragon Quest 11 was announced for the Switch. This makes it seem less likely that the leaker was just making things up, and more likely that they are privy to some insider information.

However, Banjo-Kazooie, who are owned by Microsoft, were not part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC leak, and yet they were also announced for the game at E3 2019. Considering this, it's difficult to say if the leak should be taken seriously. Perhaps Banjo-Kazooie weren't part of the initial Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC lineup, and the bird and bear duo were confirmed after the leak was posted. Or maybe the leaker purposefully misled people. Honestly, there are a lot of possibilities here, and it's unlikely that we'll ever know for sure.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Leaked Fighters

  • Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden
  • Steve from Minecraft (with Master Chief alternate costume)
  • DOOM Guy from Doom

We'll have a better idea of the legitimacy of the rest of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC leak when more characters are announced. If Ryu Hayabusa of Ninja Gaiden fame is revealed to be the next fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, then it seems like a safe bet that Steve from Minecraft (who is even more realistic now that another Microsoft-owned IP is already coming to the game in the form of Banjo-Kazooie) and DOOM Guy would be next up. But if someone else is revealed for the game instead, then all bets are off for the remaining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters.

With Banjo-Kazooie not coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate until fall, fans likely have a long wait ahead of them when it comes to finding out the identities of the next DLC fighters.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
