With The Game Awards looming just around the corner, one of the biggest questions on the minds of video game fans is what titles could premiere on the award ceremony’s stage. We’ve already heard rumors about the next Arkham game and it was revealed at State of Play that we’d be getting more Ghost of Tsushima footage, but with so many world premieres already announced for the show, what else could possibly be showing up? Well, if a new rumor is to be believed, we could be getting a major DLC reveal for one of Nintendo’s biggest exclusives.

Coming from an alleged leak that popped up on 4Chan, it appears Phoenix Wright will be announced as the final member of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s fighter pack during the ceremony. There are no details about what his move set will be or what his exclusive stage might look like, but if the leak turns out to be correct, it will be an incredible unveiling that will no doubt make a lot of Smash fans very happy.

Phoenix Wright has been one of the more popular characters on Nintendo’s roster for over a decade, debuting back in 2001’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Since then, the titular protagonist has starred in a number of universally beloved games, easily ascending the echelons of Nintendo’s roster and becoming one of the company’s biggest new characters. There’s no doubting he’d make an incredible addition to the roster, and an exciting final pick for Smash’s first wave of DLC fighters.

It’s worth stating, however, that the leak does seem slightly unreliable. Granted, the leaker makes some big claims that are backed up by other credible industry insiders (namely both the reveals of Batman Arkham Legacy and a series of Tony Hawk Pro Skater remakes), but they also name drop a handful of major blockbuster titles that seem almost too good to be true. Within their “leak” is both Grand Theft Auto 6 and gameplay for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild 2, which both seem farfetched seen as Rockstar and Nintendo are two companies that often reveal games within their own broadcasts.

There’s also the fact that the leak states Resident Evil 3 will be revealed during the show, which is already completely false seen as the game debuted yesterday at Sony’s State of Play broadcast. Geoff Keighley even stated in a Reddit AMA that none of the ceremony's premieres had leaked thus far. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to find out if Phoenix Wright will actually be making his way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the Game Awards air tomorrow evening.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now on Nintendo Switch.
