The final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct is nearly here, with fans anxiously awaiting the reveal of the game's final DLC character. Super Smash Bros Ultimate director, Masahiro Sakurai, has a message for fans ahead of the show that perhaps signals the grandeur of the incoming announcement.

It came as both a surprise and a disappointment during the last Nintendo Direct when the final Ultimate DLC character wasn't announced. Rather than unveiling it during the Direct, Nintendo announced a special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct for the final character's reveal, happening tomorrow, October 5, at 7am PT and 10am ET. Ever since, the internet has been in hysterics, as the finality of the situation has started setting in, that in no time at all, Ultimate's roster will be complete, and no more characters will be added. Naturally, the speculation over the final character has been intense, with one leak pointing towards Kingdom Hearts' Sora as the final character.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Director, Masahiro Sakurai, is encouraging the gaming community to tune into the final Direct on Twitter. When translated from Japanese, Sakurai starts by stating the news of the incoming announcement, "In one day, the final fighter of 'Smash Bros. SP' will be announced." He goes on to encourage the community saying, "Even if you don't play 'Smash Bros.', if you are interested in the game, please watch it." Sakurai has made quite a name for himself on Twitter, with many fans accusing them of teasing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC characters in the past.

In a follow-up tweet, Sakurai conjectures a bit about the identity fo the final character. "The new fighter may be a character you don't know, and each one may be different from the character you are free to expect," they write, speaking to the large variety of fans' desires and expectations. They end the tweet positively, hoping for those who tune in to enjoy the broadcast, and that they "enjoyed recording it" themselves. Those who have tuned into previous Smash Directs, like the one for Ultimate's Pyra and Mythra, will know that the recordings feature a jovial Sakurai, who is always in good spirits to show off the game.

It will truly be the end of the era after tomorrow's Direct ends. For years, the rumor mill surrounding Ultimate's DLC fighters has been one of gaming's most talked about topics, with practically every fandom hoping to see one of their favorites make it into the game. As Sakurai urges, the new character may be unexpected and different from what fans expect, so going into the showcase, it may be best to leverage out one's hopes. Most importantly, don't direct animosity towards Sakurai if the desired character doesn't appear tomorrow because it is not up to Sakurai about which characters are in Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
