Nintendo has announced the release date for Super Smash Bros. Pyra and Mythra's amiibo double set. The characters were initially introduced as fighters in the Challenger Pack 9 DLC of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with each character functioning as one fighter.Amiibo was launched by Nintendo in November 2014 as a toys-to-life platform which enables fans to buy collectible figurines or cards of their favorite Nintendo characters. An amiibo can provide an additional costume or weapon when scanned into a game like Smash Bros, unlock an extra playable character, or any of those variations. Some amiibos also allow certain game data to be saved on them, such as the specifications of a customized character. Both Pyra and Mythra are personalities in the same Legendary Blade who can switch places at will and were first introduced in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and now Nintendo will give the opportunity for fans to own their likeness separately.RELATED: Super Smash Bros. Melee Mod Makes Fan Favorite Ultimate Character PlayableThe release date for the amiibo double pack has been announced on Twitter as July 21. This means the characters will be available to add to Super Smash Bros. even if the player doesn't own the Challenger Pack 9 DLC. On top of that, each amiibo in the set will allow gamers to unlock a unique Aegis Sword weapon skin. This will be useable by those playing as the Swordfighter class in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. However, these skins are not available just yet. Nintendo will release a patch in the future which will include certain conditions players need to meet in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in order to use the weapon skins. At this time, Nintendo has not yet specified when exactly the patch will be released.

After this announcement, while players expressed their excitement in the comments, they also drew attention to the fact there's still one Super Smash Bros. character that hasn't received its own amiibo. A lot of comments under the announcement were asking when Sora will get his amiibo, as this has been a point of contention for Super Smash Bros. fans for a while. It has caused a lot of speculation, with fans wondering if Sora will ever get an amiibo. There are some theories that if Sephiroth and Kazuya's amiibo came out in January and Pyra and Mythra's is releasing in July, then hopefully players could see the release of Sora's amiibo in early 2024.

Whether the speculations will become reality is hard to tell. Although fans would likely find it very odd that only Sora is without an amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. lineup. In the meantime, gamers can look forward to adding Pyra and Mythra to their collection.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
