Zelda, Mario, and Mario Kart have all made it to the Nintendo Switch in the form of new games and remasters; but there are still a few other iconic franchises still on the way. We know a new Metroid is in development, but news on either a remake or new version of Super Smash Bros. has been strangely missing. Until now, that is...

Industry tipster Emily Rogers claims to have sources who indicate a Super Smash Bros. game will be released on the Nintendo Switch before the end of 2018. That would definitely be a pretty big surprise if it ends up being true. Perhaps an E3 or Nintendo Direct mic drop moment?

The rumors claim that the game will be based on the most recent Wii U and 3DS version, but will also add new content and make some improvements to existing features.

Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Switch Rumor

We're definitely still in rumor territory at this point, but it should be noted that at least some of Rogers' tips have proven to be true in the past. Most notably, the industry insider leaked full specs for the Nintendo Switch before the console's launch.

As everyone knows, Nintendo doesn't feel the need to save big announcements for E3 or other major press or fan events, so it's possible that a Super Smash Bros. announcement could arrive any day now. There were recent rumors about an upcoming Nintendo Direct, so perhaps the focus of that will be on the (hopefully) upcoming Switch Smash title.

There is currently no release date or official title for the Nintendo Switch version of Super Smash Bros.
