The director and creator of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a big fan of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, evidenced by the praise he gave the game online. Insomniac Games' superhero sequel has been making waves among fans and critics, where it is quickly becoming a success. Alongside high review scores, the game has become a record-breaking PS5 seller as well. Among those who are giving praise to Spider-Man 2 is esteemed game designer Masahiro Sakurai.
Many Nintendo gamers will recognize this name, as he was the director and creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, all the way up to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch. His career is long and illustrious, though he himself is considered "semi-retired." Nowadays, the game designer has been posting about his time in the gaming industry, such as Sakurai showing off rare gaming collectibles, or offering insight from his time in the industry. Sakurai is however still an active gamer, where he keeps up with a lot of modern releases. One of these titles he played was Insomniac Games' Spider-Man 2, and he gave the game a lot of high praise.
What Sakurai Had to Say About Spider-Man 2
This compliment was posted on Twitter, where he commented on how he managed to finish both Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder in roughly the same night. He notes it was pretty difficult since both Spider-Man 2 and Wonder released on the same day. Regardless, he states that both games are amazing, calling them both "masterpieces" as well. Sakurai also states that he can recommend both games to anyone, thanking the developers for making them possible.
I finished Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder last night. It's a problem when the release dates of big titles you should watch overlap...! However, I think both are masterpieces that I can recommend to anyone. The new games are amazing, and I'm grateful to them for making them.

Both the Japanese and English-speaking sides of Sakurai's followers were glad to hear how both games got the same amount of praise. Other fans were surprised to hear that he cleared both of the games roughly at the same time and within a short span of time, as well. Since both games were released on October 20, with Sakurai's tweet mentioning he beat them being posted on October 23rd, he managed to beat both titles within 2–3 days. This is an impressive feat considering how long it takes to beat Spider-Man 2, with a story-only playthrough ranging between 10–15 hours alone.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Spider-Man 2 both received the same high praise from critics and fans, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder still holding a higher review rating over Insomniac's game as of this writing. Both Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder could be considered the best games of their franchises if a designer like Sakurai endorses them.

The sequel to 2018's Spider-Man and its Miles Morales spin-off, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 console exclusive. Insomniac's open-world game features Peter Parker and Miles Morales as dual protagonists, with the two heroes going up against the likes of Kraven, Venom, and Lizard.
