Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble marks the return of AiAi and friends in the first all-new game in over ten years, excluding re-releases and re-remasters. The Super Monkey Ball games have a lot of history, with the first title launching in 2001 and Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble marking the 22nd game in the series. Even so many years later, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble looks set to evolve and refresh its formula.

Game ZXC recently spoke with Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble producer Nobuhiro Suzuki about how it feels to bring the Super Monkey Ball franchise back with a brand-new game. Suzuki also spoke about how Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble compares to other Super Monkey Ball games in the series.

When asked what it feels like to bring the franchise back with Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, Suzuki said the developers are "very happy to be able to revive this series." Suzuki also explained how the team created a brand-new Super Monkey Ball game with one foot in the franchise's past and another in its present to create a new party game experience. Certainly, the franchise has plenty of history to pull from, but games change constantly. The team working on Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble relied on both franchise history and modern capabilities in making this new entry, with Suzuki explaining,

"In creating a completely new game, we made sure to inherit the good qualities of the past Super Monkey Ball games, while at the same time giving it a new feel as a completely new game with 16-player online battles, refined design and characters, and new characters and storylines. We hope many people will enjoy the completely new Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble."

When asked how Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble stands out compared to previous Super Monkey Ball games, Suzuki said it has evolved in "every aspect" with online multiplayer. However, Suzuki also specified the inclusion of 4-player co-op in Adventure Mode, something highly requested by the community, as well as other design changes that set Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble apart from its predecessors, such as Spin Dash.

"Spin Dash adds a new essence to the normal operation of gameplay. The storyline is well presented and enjoyable with full cutscenes, and a wide variety of options are available for many customers to experience. We believe it to be a highly polished game that has been upgraded in many ways!"

It seems RGG Studio has put a lot of thought into giving players more ways to play Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble with features like design changes and new multiplayer options. Such changes could also help Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble not just be another title in fans' nostalgic video game collection but potentially take the franchise to even more exciting places.
