The Nintendo Indie World showcase presented today was filled with many exciting announcements. Players who tuned in were able to see several brand new games like Toyful Games' Very Very Valet, as well as information regards well known indie darlings finally making their way to the Switch such as Spelunky and Among Us.

However, there was one major indie announcement that seemed to take some players by surprise. Team Meat made the announcement that Super Meat Boy Forever would launch as a timed console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch. The highly anticipated sequel to Super Meat Boy has been in development for six years and is set to launch next week on December 23.

Players that are familiar with the first Super Meat Boy game know that Forever won't be a walk in the park. These violent platformers are extremely difficult, and will likely have some players retrying levels dozens upon dozens of times to complete them. However, Super Meat Boy's difficulty is precisely why fans love it so much; the intense difficulty makes it much more satisfying when one finally finishes a level.

The Super Meat Boy games have become a bit of a classic in the gaming community, and some seem to be taking it as a source of inspiration. Founder and lead engineer of Moon Studios Gennadiy Korol recently went on record saying that the platformer was a major creative inspiration as the team worked on Ori and the Blind Forest. Knowing how successful Moon Studios has become over the past few years, it seems like there is a possibility that Super Meat Boy Forever could encourage another wave of new developers.

Super Meat Boy Forever releases on December 23 on PC and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and mobile versions to follow in 2021.
