Super Meat Boy Forever launched late last year on the PC and Nintendo Switch. There were fans on other platforms who may have been disappointed to learn that Super Meat Boy Forever was a timed console exclusive to the Switch. However, it looks like that exclusivity period has now lifted, as a release date for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have just been revealed.

Many consider the original Super Meat Boy to be one of the better 2D platformers of its era, so a follow-up to that incredibly difficult title is certainly a welcome one. With the original releasing way back in 2010, it has been a long wait. But Super Meat Boy Forever is set to launch in just a week for the PS4 and Xbox One, so that wait is almost over.

Super Meat Boy Forever will release on April 16 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Developer Team Meat has mentioned that the game will likely come to next-gen consoles in time, but those dates did not come with this announcement. Still, Super Meat Boy Forever originally started in development as a mobile-only game, so it has come a long way.

Super Meat Boy Forever received average reviews overall, as the major complaint about the title is that it abandons the core gameplay of the original in an attempt to be infinitely replayable. The results of the randomly generated levels and the fact that the game is now an auto-runner instead of a standard platformer is a less polished experience and a game that seems to lose its identity a bit. Still, there is a lot of fun to be had with the package as a whole, and it is exciting that more players will be able to enjoy it very soon.

Super Meat Boy Forever is available now for PC and Switch, with PS4 and Xbox One ports launching on April 16. Mobile, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
