Nintendo has shared a shot of Mario lounging on the beach and Twitter is going crazy, believing this confirms and upcoming port of Super Mario Sunshine to the Nintendo Switch.

Earlier this year, a leak reported from Nintendo confirmed that it would release many games from Super Mario's back catalog this year, remastered for the Switch. The rumor was confirmed by several news outlets, including VGC, which claimed to have contact with Nintendo insiders and said that Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy would be one of the many games Nintendo is planning on remastering for the Switch.

Released back in 2002, Super Mario Sunshine is of the most loved of the Mario franchise. Though the GameCube was seemingly a flop in terms of sales for Nintendo, many millennials' childhoods are earmarked by Mario scurrying around Isle Delfino, eradicating paint from buildings with FLUDD. Fans have been asking for a Sunshine port for years, and thanks to the rumored Super Mario's 35th-anniversary celebration, it looks like 2020 might be the year that fans get it.

Though Nintendo has yet to formally announce its reprise, players have taken to many hints pointing in Super Mario Sunshine's direction, including a recent tweet from Nintendo of Europe, showing off Mario sunbathing on the beach with Toad floating on a sailboat in the back. If the report from VGC is true, Super Mario ports should be arriving soon, but as for Sunshine specifically in regards to the tweet, it should be noted that Nintendo did the same thing last year, posting a picture of Mario enjoying some watermelon on the beach, and fans went crazy then too.

In lieu of a canceled E3 event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Nintendo—along with many other developers and publishers—were forced to make alternative plans. This has resulted in a lack of Nintendo Directs and disappointment in fans, though Nintendo did put on a very short Direct Mini earlier this summer. It's rumored that Nintendo might be putting on a full-length direct before August is over, which means it could soon reveal its plans for releasing Super Mario ports on the Switch.

In short, the tweet doesn't confirm anything, however, there are many other indicators that Super Mario Sunshine will be coming to the Switch later this year along with other Mario classics because Nintendo would be remiss not to include the GameCube release in its alleged lineup.
