  • The event promotes the newly released Princess Peach: Showtime game for Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo's Super Mario Run has launched a new crossover event to celebrate the release of Princess Peach: Showtime on Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Run is a title that occasionally gets overlooked despite being a part of the mainline Super Mario games.

Eight years after its original release, Super Mario Run is still getting updates. Nintendo has occasionally done crossover promotional events with Super Mario Run that tie into recent Nintendo Switch releases. For example, Super Mario Run had events that revolved around Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year. Nintendo is doing another promotional event with Super Mario Run, this time based on the recently released Princess Peach: Showtime.

Princess Peach: Showtime Already Has a Clear Sequel Opportunity

If Princess Peach: Showtime! gets a sequel, then there is already one big idea that could be incorporated into the next game's design.

The new Super Mario Run event will run for a limited time, with players being able to get 1.2x the usual amount of bonus medals in Remix 10. This allows players to get special items from the Super Bonus Game, running until March 30th. Players will also get the chance to play special Princess Peach: Showtime-themed missions, with decoration rewards being unlocked with each one cleared. These rewards include new statues based on Peach's transformations in Princess Peach: Showtime, including a set of Patissiere Peach, Swordfighter Peach, and Peach & Stella statues. The event will be running until May 7th, giving players a little over a month to complete the missions and obtain the rewards.

Super Mario Run x Princess Peach: Showtime Event Details

  • 1.2x Bonus Medals in Remix 10 (available until March 30)
  • New Statues and Princess Peach: Showtime Special Missions (available until May 7)
    • Patissiere Peach Statue - Complete three missions
    • Swordfighter Peach Statue - Complete six missions
    • Peach & Stella Statue - Complete nine missions

Fans were clued in about the event early on, as a random update was dropped for Super Mario Run earlier this week. The update had "added features for an event" alongside some bug fixes. Some fans were able to guess that the crossover event was going to be used to promote Princess Peach: Showtime, based on the Nintendo Switch release calendar and the timing of the update.

While Princess Peach: Showtime is an easier game compared to other Nintendo Switch releases, it's a charming title that excels in giving the Mushroom Kingdom's Princess the spotlight with a unique set of powers and costumes. Princess Peach: Showtime isn't the only Mario spin-off releasing in 2024, as Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake will be coming out later this year too.
