Where to Find Toadofsky in Super Mario RPG

In Super Mario RPG, Toadofsky can be found in the far right area of Tadpole Pond, where a small inlet exists with lines extending to the other end of the water. If Mario enters this area before speaking with the Frog Sage, he will be told that the musical tadpoles refuse to speak with strangers.

On the other side of this pond near the save point waits Toadofsky who is working on a new composition. The player must help jog his memory by jumping across the tadpoles and creating a melody. As Mario plays more correct notes, Toadofsky will tell the player they are getting progressively closer to the melody he's thinking of.

Luckily, players are not left entirely in the dark with this puzzle. The melody Toadofsky seeks is known by a tadpole in the area of the pond immediately preceding this one. Before the entrance to Toadofsky's area, a tadpole will appear on the edge of the pond directly north. The tadpole is an aspiring composer and knows Toadofsky has a liking for the Frog Sage's suite no.18. The tadpole then goes on to provide the exact notes needed to play the melody: So La Mi Re Do Re Do Re.

To play the melody for Toadofsky, Mario must return to the lined section of the pond. As he does, tadpoles that Mario can jump on will appear one at a time. Toadofsky will tell Mario where the notes fall on the scale, starting with Do falling between the 2nd and 3rd lines from the top. Players will need to jump to each tadpole as they swim through each correct note on the scale, as demonstrated in the video below.

Super Mario RPG Toadofsky Puzzle 2

After the player has completed Mole Mines and rescued the mole children inside, Toadofsky will once again appear at Tadpole Pond seeking a new melody. The melody he is looking for is the Moleville Blues, sung by the miners of Moleville. Mario can learn about the melody from one of the children in town and be told to venture into the mountain mine to hear the miners sing.

After venturing deep into the mine, players will find the moles hard at work. Mario can speak to the working moles and request to hear the song. Within the song's lyrics, pairs of letters are capitalized, indicating the notes Mario will need to play for Toadofsky: Mi Do So Do Re La Ti Do.

Players should return to Toadofsky and play the melody by jumping across the tadpoles, as demonstrated in the video above. As thanks for the inspiration, Toadofsky will reward Mario with the Tenor card, allowing the party to purchase Finless Cola from the Juice Bar.

Upstairs, players can find a star that, when spoken to, dances to the final melody Toadofsky seeks. In addition, sheet music hangs on the wall behind the star, showing the exact notes needed to play the melody for Toadofsky: La Ti Do So Re So Do Re.

As shown in the video above, players should return to Tadpole Pond and jump across the tadpoles to play Toadofsky the Monstro Town melody. Overjoyed, he will reward Mario with a Soprano Card. This final card will allow players to purchase the powerful Croaka Cola from the Juice Bar.

After performing the final melody, Toadofsky immediately asks Mario to play a melody of his own design. Toadofsky will then arrange an orchestral-sounding final performance for Mario to hear. Players can play any combination of notes to complete this, and the notes can be changed on subsequent visits. This is purely for player enjoyment, as no other rewards can be earned from Toadofsky after the final puzzle.
