Retro gaming YouTube channel RetroRPG recently uploaded a video comparing the original Super Mario RPG for SNES to the upcoming remake for Nintendo Switch. The recent reveal trailer for the Super Mario RPG remake may be seen in the top left-hand corner, while the bottom right-hand corner of the video shows footage of the original SNES version captured by RetroRPG. The gameplay footage captured from the classic SNES game appears to mimic the latest trailer, highlighting the similarities and differences between both versions. For example, RetroRPG's footage shows that the opening cutscenes of Super Mario RPG remake are very similar to the original despite having new visuals and different cutscene angles.

Mario's running animation and the combat system's isometric view in Super Mario RPG remake appear to be relatively unchanged as shown in RetroRPG's comparison video. Additionally, enemy placement in the remake appears to be identical to the original game in several locations, including Mushroom Way and Kero Sewers. All characters and enemies received new models that are similar to those found in recent Super Mario games, however.

RetroRPG's new video showcases the extent that Nintendo went to preserve the SNES game's unique identity. Super Mario RPG is regarded as one of the best Super Mario games of all time, and the Nintendo Switch remake appears to recapture the important features that made the 1996 title a success.

The new remake will include a new combat mechanic that appears to be a derivative of Action Commands from the Mario & Luigi series. Fans can also expect an arranged Super Mario RPG soundtrack by Yoko Shimomura, the renowned composer behind the game's original score on SNES.

Super Mario RPG launches November 17 for Nintendo Switch.
