The Nintendo Wii U is trending on Twitter today after the release of the latest Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury trailer. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is an enhanced port of the Wii U game Super Mario 3D World, and it comes as the latest of a number of Wii U ports for the Switch.

The trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury showed off some footage of the game's new content. Following that, people on Twitter started talking about what other Wii U ports might be best on the Switch, and how they might be modified to better fit the system like Bowser's Fury is doing for Super Mario 3D World.

As of now, only nine first-party Wii U games have yet to be ported to Switch. Some people took the time time to share their memories of the system and trade memes about its games. There has always been a lot of discussion as to which Wii U ports should come to the Switch next, as many feel the Wii U had some excellent games despite its lackluster sales.

Open-world JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles X is often a popular choice, especially now that both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are on Switch. Xenoblade Chronicles X could potentially benefit from new story content, as it originally ended on a cliffhanger. Other games that often get brought up are Nintendo Land and Star Fox Zero, though they both would need tweaking to feel at home on the system as they took advantage of the Wii U's dual screen functionality.

Coming right off the heels of the successful Wii, the Wii U was one of Nintendo's worst-selling systems by a wide margin. Now that the Netflix app being discontinued on the Wii U and 3DS, it seems like the Wii U is finally coming to the end of its life, so now is likely the best time to finish porting its first-party games so they can be given a second chance on the more successful Switch.

If Nintendo wants the Switch to continue outselling the competition, it should be careful to make sure the Switch doesn't just become a port machine, as many were worried it might have been early in its life. Of the top-selling Switch titles, a few including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are ports of Wii U games. Meanwhile, a number of others like Super Mario Maker 2 or Splatoon 2 are sequels that play more like enhanced remakes of Wii U titles.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will launch on February 12, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
