Sumo Digital is a developer primarily based in the U.K. and known for its work on huge franchises like Crackdown and LittleBigPlanet. Still, Sumo Digital may not be among the most well-known developers, though the company certainly has some heavy hitters in terms of the games it produces. Though there hasn't been a new mainline LittleBigPlanet game in a while, Sumo Digital has still kept itself busy, working on the multiplayer game Hood: Outlaws & Legends, as well as helping to bring Forza Horizon 4 to Steam.

According to a recent job listing, it seems Sumo Digital is looking to enter the AAA gaming sphere once more. After being acquired by media conglomerate Tencent, Sumo Digital has had many eyes on it for a while, looking to see what the established studio will make next. Currently, Sumo Digital is looking for a Principal Graphics Programmer to support the studio in creating an "incredibly ambitious, AAA action title." Of course, the nature of this title is unknown, though the job listing goes on to say that this project is in its "inception stage," meaning that it's unlikely fans will be hearing of anything anytime soon.

Sumo Digital has made multiple job postings as of late, clearly gearing up for the creation of this "ambitious" title. Prior to its posting of the Principal Graphics Programmer position, a job listing for a Level Designer had many believing that LittleBigPlanet 4 was on its way, as the listing spoke of an entry into a beloved and already established franchise. However, the listing for Principal Graphics Programmer may counter those rumors of a new LittleBigPlanet game, as it seems Sumo Digital may be focusing on a new IP rather than one of its older franchises.

Tencent to Buy Sumo Digital for £919 Million

Were it to be confirmed that Sumo was not working on a LittleBigPlanet game, that would undoubtedly spark some disappointment for LittleBigPlanet fans, who have been waiting eight years for a new mainline game in the franchise. Though Sackboy: A Big Adventure features the iconic LittleBigPlanet protagonist, many found this game a departure from the series' initial platforming beginnings.

What Sumo Digital is working on then, largely remains unknown. The only hints for fans are in the job description, which confirms that the upcoming title will have an AAA focus and will be an action game, though many titles could fit under the broad term of an "action game." The job requirements also confirm that the prospective employee will need experience with "at least one published Unreal project," indicating that the new game could be using the impressive Unreal 5 engine. Hopefully, some more solid news on Sumo Digital's new project will be coming in the future.
