The third edition of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest has seen announcements for plenty of gaming's biggest franchises throughout the various developer showcases. Microsoft's Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase featured highly-anticipated games like Starfield and Redfall while Sony's State of Play showed off iconic franchises like Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy 16. Now, a recent update from Keighley has revealed 2022's Summer Game Fest was the most successful showing the event has seen yet with more to come.

With Geoff Keighley looking to take the reins in the absence of E3 for the second time in three years, many of gaming's most iconic developers have come together for Summer Game Fest 2022. June has already seen major presentations from Sony, Microsoft, and Sega and rumors have persisted about a potential Nintendo Direct broadcast to come near the end of the month. The E3 alternative has clearly been a massive success as a new report from Geoff Keighley confirms 2022's live showcase saw the largest viewership numbers in Summer Game Fest history.

An infographic uploaded to Keighley's Twitter Wednesday afternoon revealed that Summer Game Fest 2022's live showcase on June 9 saw over 27 million livestreams, an 8% increase from last year's. The showcase boasted a peak concurrent viewership of over 3.5 million global viewers with the show's presence on Twitter increasing significantly compared to the 2021 event. The infographic also revealed that the live showcase boasted over 6,000 co-streamers during the event.

The post concludes with Keighley reaffirming that the Summer Game Fest will return for another year with next year's event once again set for June. The Game Awards host had previously revealed that Summer Game Fest will feature its first in-person event in 2023 with the event apparently set to run alongside E3's planned return for next summer. Keighley has yet to reveal a set date for next year's showcase outside the June 2023 window with Summer Game Fest likely looking to avoid clashing with E3's in-person festivities.

Sony and Microsoft are just a few of the many developers who have featured gaming juggernauts throughout the month as a part of the Summer Game Fest celebration. Devolver Digital's showcase featured plenty of new trailers for indie games like Cult of the Lamb and Skate Story while Sega's Sonic Central showed off new gameplay of the highly-anticipated Sonic Frontiers. With 2022's event boasting record numbers and high-profile announcements galore, Summer Game Fest has established itself as a premier event in gaming.
