While the Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League story trailer from E3 proved that Rocksteady has nailed the tone of Task Force X, some fans were on the fence due to a lack of gameplay footage. After all, the struggles of similar games like Marvel’s Avengers had fans worrying about history repeating itself, something that would be particularly disappointing given Rocksteady’s past work. However, gameplay has finally been shown, and it does not disappoint.

If Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is as varied as its trailer makes it seem, DC fans are in for a treat. During the gameplay that was revealed, the depth of each character’s moveset is showcased, with each of the anti-heroes playing differently from one another. This is a big deal, as players will be controlling characters with unique combat styles as opposed to experiencing similar gameplay with some different animations. As such, players could fill different roles in a group while also having a major reason to replay the game.

Why Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s Varied Characters Are A Big Deal

There are several moments during Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s gameplay trailer where it is clear that the characters play very differently from one another. For example, Harley Quinn is shown grappling while King Shark runs up a wall, ensuring that players have very different ways of traversing depending on who they are controlling. This extends to the other members of the group, with Deadshot boasting a jetpack and Captain Boomerang having super speed.

Harley Quinn and King Shark can both be seen pulling off two very different finishing moves as well, with the former destroying a Brainiac bot with a bomb and the latter slamming an enemy’s head into the floor repeatedly. The fact that each character has different takedowns is a great sign, as it means that the characters’ various personalities will be reflected through their combat. This strength extends to their abilities as well.

King Shark is seen leaping off a rooftop and slamming into the ground, and given his size, it can be assumed that he will be the group’s tank. Deadshot wields a rifle, meaning that he will be a solid option for gamers that prefer to fight from a distance. This allows players to fill certain roles in their groups, leaning into their personal strengths so that they can find the most success. This could make teamwork and coordination important, which is always a necessity in co-op games.

Whether gamers are swinging Harley’s bat or using Captain Boomerang’s throwable weaponry, the trailer makes it look as if each character will be a lot of fun to use. This is a big deal when it comes to Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s replayability, as while it is not being pushed as a games-as-a-service title, gamers could still get plenty of hours out of the game. With such varied playstyles, DC fans may want to play through the game once as King Shark and another time as Harley Quinn.

Varied characters were always going to be the most important aspect of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, and fortunately, it looks like Rocksteady has nailed this aspect of the game. Assuming that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s narrative is well-written and entertaining, and that players have a diverse lineup of enemies to fight, it could be an excellent adaptation of Task Force X. While the Suicide Squad has been getting a lot of love lately, the quality of the gameplay trailer shows why that extra attention is justified.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled to release in 2022 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
