The possibility of being able to kill the Justice League in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a remarkable hook. Brainiac is obviously the overarching villain in the game that players will likely need to take down before they hit credits, but knowing that there will be a boss fights against a murderous Superman and Batman has always been enough to sell the game on its own, even if killing them is not actually the only way to thwart Brainiac. Meanwhile, gameplay has demonstrated that fighting the Justice League will only make up a small part of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Most of what players are doing in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s open-world Metropolis will revolve around shooting purple Brainiac aliens. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was recently delayed to sometime later this year, reportedly following fans’ backlash in response to the State of Play gameplay. Fans will have to wait and see if any structural changes can even be made within that timeframe. Regardless, the Justice League’s individual boss fights will be unsatisfactory if a Wonder Woman boss fight is not included, and that could be the case if she is not corrupted by Brainiac.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Wonder Woman is the only Justice League character who has not been shown with a Brainiac corruption evident in the dark veins and purple irises that the rest of the League exhibits. If she remains free throughout the game, though, there will be two massive implications about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League that potentially make it a more underwhelming experience overall. First, there may be no boss fight against Wonder Woman.

Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman are all assumed to have boss fights due to them being Brainiac's minions, and even that is a big assumption at this point. Wonder Woman seemingly was left out of that boss pool. This is largely disappointing because Wonder Woman could have been a fantastic boss with attacks that are already baked into her regular abilities and equipment.

Wonder Woman could defend against the myriad firearms Suicide Squad players customize and equip with her shield or bracers, for example. She could lasso players and incapacitate them while their fellow squadmates or bots help to free them, or the lasso could simply yank them toward her or throw them into environments. If any League member needed to be left out as a lone character unaffected by Brainiac, it would have made more sense from a gameplay perspective to leave Flash without a boss fight. Flash’s speed is undoubtedly one of the trickier abilities to depict well in-game, and a boss fight centered around him could have been avoided altogether.

Brainiac’s corruption gives Flash and Captain Boomerang’s beef another layer of complexity and has already been shown to be the foundation for a couple comedic moments in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. If Flash’s boss fight does not thoroughly demonstrate how fast and omnipresent he could be against Task Force X, though, then it could feel wasteful.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could still offer elaborate and engaging boss fights with other Justice League members, but a bad precedent has already been set in cutscenes revealed from the game. Wonder Woman has been seen twice now defending Task Force X from the Justice League; once from Superman and now from Flash.

If this is to be expected in every encounter, then it runs the risk of not having actual fights with the Justice League members themselves. Wonder Woman should not be Task Force X’s savior in every situation, and the concern is that she could be fighting the League in the background while players are simply tasked to take out Brainiac’s alien horde in the meantime.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
