The latest Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer puts the spotlight on the irreverent Harley Quinn, one of the anti-heroes players will control in Rocksteady’s upcoming superhero shooter. First created for the beloved Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, the former Dr. Harleen Quinzel has gone on to become one of DC’s most popular characters and has appeared in subsequent comics, cartoons, and even live-action DC movies over the years. She even served as a recurring antagonist across all three of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games, supporting her longtime boyfriend the Joker until his death at the end of the second game.

Harley Quinn’s story will continue in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a spin-off set in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham series. She, alongside fellow super-criminals Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark, is recruited by Amanda Waller as part of her Task Force X program to complete a dangerous and daunting mission: eliminate the Justice League after they are taken over by the sinister Brainiac. This mission will take them to an open-world version of Metropolis, as shown in the recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League deep-dive that Rocksteady shared earlier this month.

Rocksteady Was Never Working on a Superman Game, Says Insider

A trusted gaming news insider shuts down resurfaced rumors that alleged developer Rocksteady was working on a Superman video game.

This recent stream of new Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League intel is continuing, with the latest trailer showcasing Harley Quinn. It starts with Amanda Waller describing Harley as “a mad one-woman show who takes nothing seriously” in a voice-over narration as the deadly jester shows off her wild and chaotic personality. The focus then shifts toward Harley's in-game transversal and combat capabilities, showing her striking enemies with her baseball bat and shooting them with guns before swinging across the battlefield on a grappling hook. According to Waller, Harley has even gained access to some of Batman’s technology, including a bat-shaped attack drone of some kind.

So far, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has had a rough road since it was first announced back in 2020. While fans initially welcomed the prospect of returning to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham universe as some of the DC’s most popular villains, there was a considerable backlash to Suicide Squad’s over-the-shoulder shooter mechanics and live-service model - the latter of which conjured less-than-ideal memories of games like Marvel’s Avengers. Suicide Squad has also been delayed twice, something that many fans are taking as a bad omen for the game.

Rocksteady is working to mitigate these concerns by showing off more of Suicide Squad’s gameplay, plot, and characters in the build-up to its planned release next January, including its take on the ever-popular Harley Quinn. There are still many questions surrounding Harley’s role in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, especially over how she managed to acquire some of Batman’s weapons, but the Clown Queen of Crime is bringing her bat, some guns, and a few one-liners to the battle against Earth’s former heroes next year.
