The following contains story spoilers for Rocksteady Studios' Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League .

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's early access period went live recently for those who purchased the game's Deluxe Edition, and players are finally experiencing firsthand the expanded world of Rocksteady's Arkhamverse. Despite some divisive opinions from hardcore fans of the Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League still proves to be an action-packed thrill ride in its narrative and gameplay.

During one of Rocksteady's Discord Q&A sessions before Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's release, the developer disclosed that the game's world of Metropolis would have plenty of Easter eggs for DC fans to track down. That much is true, as there are plenty of Easter eggs for players to find even within the beginning hours of the game. However, one of these Easter eggs goes beyond the DCU and into the science fiction universe of Halo — specifically, the very first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's Halo Easter Egg Explained

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Sees Brainiac Taking Over Metropolis

Despite devoting some time to showing players the ropes, the first few hours of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are heavily story-driven as they set up this new world in Rocksteady's Arkhamverse with its villains, its anti-heroes, and the conflict between them. Brainiac has taken over the city of Metropolis by brainwashing several members of the Justice League and using them to take over the planet. Former Arkham inmates Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and King Shark are then sent after the Justice League to stop them.

Shortly after the tutorial and introduction, the squad is taken captive by Green Lantern, who drags them through Metropolis on what is highly reminiscent of a theme park virtual reality ride, all while explaining the situation to them. After giving the squad a brief introduction to Brainiac's plans, Green Lantern flies through the city again and comes to a stop near a road. Suddenly, a civilian on the road is heard screaming as he attempts to run away from something in the shadows. However, before he can get away, a four-legged alien creature latches onto the man and transforms him into a mutant that Green Lantern refers to as a "metahuman."

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Makes a Reference to Halo's Flood

There is an uncanny resemblance between the alien creature, known as a "Terminaut," and the alien parasites first introduced in Halo: Combat Evolved. Near the end of Halo's second act, Master Chief encounters a parasitic alien species called the "Flood." Similarly to Suicide Squad's Terminauts, the Flood latch onto and infect people, mutating them into superhuman zombies. Before Master Chief's firsthand encounter with the Flood, however, he plays back a video recording left by some Marines who had traveled there previously and therein is where Suicide Squad's Halo reference originated.

In the video, several Marines are seen encountering the Flood for the first time. One Marine, however, eventually gets attacked by one of the Flood Carriers, who latches onto his head in an attempt to transform him. As he is being attacked, the Marine cries out, "Get it out! Get it out!" This is strikingly similar to what happens when the civilian in Suicide Squad gets attacked by a Terminaut, as not only do Terminauts and Flood Carriers resemble one another in appearance and purpose, but the civilian cries out, "Get it off! Get it off!" when he's being attacked.

It's unclear whether this Easter egg was an intentional move by Rocksteady, but it certainly seems that way. The parallels between the Terminauts and the victims in each game are difficult to ignore. Considering Rocksteady's comments about all the Easter eggs hidden in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, however, it's likely this is one of the many.
