As part of Thursday's PlayStation State of Play, Rocksteady Studios confirmed early plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League post-launch content, including DLC and a battle pass. It's long been rumored that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would be a live service game and while Rocksteady didn't use that label specifically, it may as well have. Those that pick up Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be able to continue playing the game well beyond its main campaign.

The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League portion of today's State of Play confirmed a significant amount of information about the upcoming third-person shooter. A full gameplay demo was shown, with combat footage from all the game's launch protagonists, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark. A good look at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's gear system was also shown, as it's a major aspect of the looter shooter's progression and gameplay loop.

That gameplay loop will carry over well into Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's future, it seems. Rocksteady explained that it has robust DLC plans for its game post-launch. In terms of gameplay, Rocksteady says that players can expect "lots of new content." Specific examples include character DLC, mission-based DLC, and additional weapons. No mention was made regarding whether this content will be premium or freely available.

Cosmetic DLC will also be offered for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Rocksteady says it plans to offer a battle pass for Suicide Squad that will solely feature cosmetic DLC. Just a few examples of fun outfits for various characters were shown during the trailer, just as examples. Wonder Woman Harley Quinn and Superman King Shark show that Rocksteady is open to having fun with the Suicide Squad game's cosmetics.

There's obviously a lot left for Rocksteady to announce for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A battle pass implies that Rocksteady plans to have a seasonal content schedule, which it has yet to detail. A seasonal content schedule opens up Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to possible new story chapters, like Fortnite and Destiny 2, or major gameplay shifts, like Overwatch 2.

Rocksteady can take Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in a number of different directions, but it's admittedly worrisome it has yet to elaborate on those plans. Live service games are oversaturated at the moment and games seem to fail as often as they succeed. If Rocksteady wants Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to thrive months and years after launch, character, mission, and cosmetic DLC will have to be just the start of its plans.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases May 26 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
