Rocksteady's upcoming DC super villain action game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has received a new release date following another massive delay. After a poorly received gameplay reveal at a PlayStation State of Play in February, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was hit with an indefinite postponement. Now the game has its target set on a new date that will hopefully give Rocksteady enough time to make some changes for the better.Originally announced in August 2020, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had many fans perplexed as to the nature of a game that will see DC villains Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot go up against the likes of Superman, Batman, and The Flash among others. Rocksteady's history with the highly regarded Batman: Arkham series has made fans wonder why the lauded studio has made such a drastic pivot toward a four-player co-op focused shooter set in Metropolis. With the abundance of live-service titles flooding the AAA gaming market, many gamers were also justifiably concerned about whether the title would follow the lead of Crystal Dynamics' poorly received and soon-to-be decommissioned Marvel's Avengers. With an original release window of 2022, then May 26, 2023, Kill the Justice League's latest delay will move the game's launch to a new and hopefully final target date.RELATED: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's Prequel Comic Raises More Questions About Rocksteady's BatmanAfter over a month of silence since the game's PlayStation State of Play appearance, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League posted a message on Twitter announcing a new release date of February 2, 2024. This new date is almost a full year after this past February's State of Play gameplay reveal where many players felt underwhelmed by the game's third-person shooter-heavy combat and live-service elements like gear, battle passes, and requiring an online connection even while playing solo.

It seems increasingly likely that this new nine-month delay was in response to the poor reception of Kill the Justice League's gameplay reveal. While many fans were excited by the game's fluid traversal, calling back to Insomniac Games' Sunset Overdrive, some fans seemed discontent with such a heavy focus on shooter combat. Since Rocksteady has excelled at Arkham's close quarters hand-to-hand Batman combat in the past, many fans have been questioning why its new game is so heavily reliant on third-person shooter gameplay with four DC villains that have brawler capabilities.

It's possible that the game may be taking this time to tweak some of its unpopular live-service elements, but it would be unwise to expect Suicide Squad's live service identity to be overhauled entirely. Perhaps the developers are working to have less emphasis on third-person shooter elements or more enemy variety. Whatever it is that Rocksteady is taking this extra time to improve, fans will have to wait longer to jump into Metropolis and kill the Justice League.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is coming out on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
