Introduced all the way back in 1960, Captain Boomerang has been one of the Flash's most iconic villains ever since, even despite his penchant for garish costumes, his wacky name, and his use of ancient throwing weapons. Somehow, over the years, Captain Boomerang has become one of the Flash's biggest villains, with his vast range of trick boomerangs giving him a sizable edge over the Scarlet Speedster. DC fans will finally get to see this long-running rivalry on their screens this year, with the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Set some time after the events of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League sees Brainiac invade Earth and somehow mind-control the world's best defenders to work for him. While Superman appears to be the titular squad's Alpha Target, it looks like they'll be forced to apprehend the rest of the Justice League as well, including the Flash. With Captain Boomerang taking up one of the four positions on the squad, fans are sure to see plenty of the two's bitter rivalry during the course of the game.

While the first few Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailers focused on introducing the main team and the game's overall plot, the last few have really honed in on core rivalry between the Flash and Captain Boomerang. Fans first got a proper glimpse of this during the "Flash and Burn" trailer, released in December 2021. As well as giving fans their first proper look at gameplay, this trailer put Boomerang and Flash's rivalry front and center.

This trailer opens up with Captain Boomerang directly addressing the Flash via a face call, mocking his superhero status and calling him by his first name. Boomerang is then suddenly cut off from his rant when the Flash appears and smacks his face into the camera. A few moments later, Harley Quinn tells Task Force X leader Amanda Waller that the Flash is "working for team Brainiac," to which she reiterates the team's objective: "Kill the Flash." Throughout the trailer, in between snippets of gameplay, cinematics of the Flash taunting the Suicide Squad can be seen, with him dodging Deadshot's bullets and literally running circles around the group. The trailer then ends with the Flash trapping the team in a Speedforce cyclone, and taking on Captain Boomerang in a one-on-one fight.

The most recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer, revealed at the 2022 Game Awards, presumably shows the immediate aftermath of this fight. As the team makes their way inside Arkham Asylum, they tell Waller that they have the Flash. While most of the squad are distracted, Boomerang takes a concussed Flash aside and threatens him, stating that he's waited a long time for this moment. While Boomerang's intention is grim, the cinematic manages to keep itself lighthearted by showing Boomerang continuously dropping Flash as he attempts to pick up the hero's severed finger, which he just accidentally cut off.

If these trailers are any indication of what's to come, then fans should expect plenty more back and forth between the Flash and Captain Boomerang during Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. In fact, fans might be getting a lot more interactions in a similar vein between the rest of the squad and their own respective rivals, such as Harley and Batman, and King Shark and Aquaman, though he hasn't been confirmed to appear yet.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches May 26, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
