Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to continue the story of the Arkhamverse, pitting up Arkham inmates against Batman’s greatest allies. With the game confirmed to take place a few months after the events of Arkham Knight, fans are curious about a particular scene in the story reveal trailer that shows the Batmobile. Following the events of Arkham Knight, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will need to explain who is driving the iconic vehicle.

At the end of Arkham Knight, Bruce Wayne’s identity as Batman is revealed to the world, forcing him to activate the Knightfall Protocol that destroys Wayne Manor and seemingly kills both him and Alfred. With these events set a few months prior to the upcoming Suicide Squad game, fans are curious to see how the Batmobile will play into the story, and whether there is a new Batman driving it. With multiple theories floating around about the end of Arkham Knight, there are many avenues the upcoming game could take, from seeing one of the Robin’s picking up the Dark Knight’s cowl to Bruce Wayne having faked his death.

Batman is Still Alive

Batman-in-Arkham-Knight

As a human with a genius-level intellect, Bruce Wayne always stays one step ahead of his enemies, and this could be true for the way Arkham Knight ended. Batman already had a contingency set up in case his identity was revealed, which means he could have easily faked his death to elevate Batman as a symbol rather than a character. With this being the most prominent theory about the end of Arkham Knight, it seems likely the Batmobile shown in the Suicide Squad trailer could be being driven by Batman himself.

If the original Batman were alive, it would undoubtedly change the way he acts. Using the Knightfall Protocol could have removed any constraints that Batman had, since he no longer has to keep up public appearances as Bruce Wayne. This is further bolstered by the fact that before he died, he tasked Jim Gordon to look after the rest of the Bat Family, as though he might return to connect with them again someday.

A New Batman

Since Arkham Knight’s ending did not confirm whether Bruce Wayne faked his death or not, other theories have been brought up regarding a new Batman coming around after Arkham Knight. If Bruce Wayne died, it is more than likely that one of his Bat Family members would pick up the cowl to protect Gotham. The two characters that would have most likely become Batman after Bruce’s death in Arkham Knight are Nightwing and Azrael.

Nightwing is the closest person to Batman in terms of ability and intelligence, and he has always been considered Bruce Wayne’s successor. However, during the events of Arkham Knight, Batman asks him to continue protecting his city as Nightwing, so in the Arkhamverse it is more likely that Azrael picked up the cowl. During the Arkham games, Azrael proved himself to be the perfect replacement for Bruce Wayne, so he could be the one driving the Batmobile. This would also explain why the Batmobile in the Suicide Squad trailer looks so different from the ones in other Arkham games.

The Suicide Squad Have The Batmobile

Perhaps the most likely scenario for who is driving the Batmobile in the Suicide Squad trailer is Amanda Waller, who got ahold of an older model Batmobile and allowed the team to use it in Metropolis. This would mean that Batman is dead, and the ending of Arkham Knight could be explained as a result of the Scarecrow's fear toxin affecting the two muggers in the alley, as the image they saw of Batman was the same Scarecrow saw when he was dosed.

With Batman dead and his identity revealed to the world after the events of Arkham Knight, it would not have been hard for Amanda Waller to get access to a Batmobile. This opens the door to other theories that could explain how the Suicide Squad would stand a chance against the Justice League. It is possible that Batman left behind his contingency plans to take out League members if they were to turn evil, including a piece of Kryptonite, which gives Amanda Waller and the rest of the Suicide Squad a fighting chance against the rogue Justice League members.

The appearance of the Batmobile in the Suicide Squad trailer raises more questions than it answers, and it seems fans will not get any clues until after the game has been released. Batman is often the voice of reason in the Justice League, and has been unaffected by various forms of mind control in the past, so it is possible that he is alive and will act as a protagonist character in the upcoming game. However, with the Arkhamverse already seemingly killing off Bruce Wayne, other characters may step into Batman’s shoes to assist the Suicide Squad as they battle the Justice League.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
