Highlights

  • The unique portrayals of characters in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League haven't been seen before in Arkham games, except for Harley Quinn and Batman.
  • The rivalry between Captain Boomerang and Flash will be a fun dynamic to explore, as Boomerang is tasked with killing Flash.
  • Wonder Woman's role in the game may involve a potential romantic connection with Batman or Superman as a nod to the comics, and such romance could lead to an emotional choice of possibly having to kill a lover.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Task Force X is currently as unknown as its Justice League. These characters might be known and well-established in DC source material, but their unique portrayals in the Arkhamverse haven’t been seen before in Arkham games aside from Harley Quinn and Batman. Penguin has also been reprised, suggesting that other Arkham heavyweights could also return, but it’ll be exciting to see Rocksteady’s treatment of characters who players haven’t seen before in the tetralogy that preceded Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Captain Boomerang and Flash’s rivalry has been prominent in the trailer footage released so far, lending to a relationship that will be fun to see in the game as Boomerang is sanctioned to kill Flash this time around. Green Lantern recently had more shown off in the first Suicide Squad Insider, proving to be the League member who basically introduces players to Brainiac’s invasion in Metropolis and takes them on a levitated ride through city streets to explain what’s going on before Flash shows up to thwart him. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, may have a much more distinct role in the game.

Suicide Squad Could Twist the Knife on Wonder Woman’s Potential Romantic Connections

Wonder Woman Being with Batman or Superman Can Make Killing the Justice League Emotional

Based on the marketing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has received thus far, it’s safe to assume that Wonder Woman may simply serve to aid players in their fight against the League. If true, then having Wonder Woman be romantically connected to Batman or Superman—or at least linked in the past with feelings left unreconciled or unrequited—could result in an interesting heartstring for Rocksteady to tug at when it comes time to possibly having to murder either of them.

With Wonder Woman appearing to be free from Brainiac’s mind control long enough to go toe-to-toe with both Superman and Flash, it would be incredible for Wonder Woman to learn from Flash that the League needs to be killed and be faced with the choice of killing a current or former lover. At least, such details about each League member will hopefully be made apparent in dialogue.

Of course, players will also hopefully be involved in these boss fights and not just watch as Wonder Woman steps in to protect them. But Wonder Woman having to battle a lover and struggle with the choice of potentially having to kill them in order to purge them of Brainiac’s hold over them would be a traumatic and harrowing arc for Wonder Woman to endure and would greatly juxtapose the chaotic frivolity that Task Force X will be exuding otherwise.

Wonder Woman Cannot Be Sidelined as Kill the Justice League’s Love Interest

As the only woman in the Justice League, it would also be inexcusable if Rocksteady leaned too heavily on her having romantic connections to other League colleagues. Taking this premise too far could leave Wonder Woman as a simple love interest of Batman or Superman with that being her only merit in the story, and that would be awfully misrepresentative of what her character adds to the League.

That said, if a relationship with Batman or Superman could help reinforce the context of the League’s history with one another that could add a lot of weight to their own interconnected lore, particularly since each member present besides Superman has been formally nonexistent in the Arkhamverse before now. There’s going to be a lot of catching up to do regardless of whether the League actually is killed in Kill the Justice League or not because it’d be disappointing not to have world-building for these characters in a Metropolis that is architecturally dedicated to them in how buildings are designed and decorated, turning the city into one big shrine for them.

If a relationship within the League could add anything of value to that lore, it would be phenomenal to see it brought out when they are turned on one another by Brainiac. Only time will tell, but it would also be best if not much else was shared about these iconic superheroes until launch.
