In the eight years since the Batman: Arkham series concluded with Arkham Knight, many fans have been eagerly waiting to see what corner of DC Comics developer Rocksteady may cover next. After all that time, Rocksteady is just a couple of months away from releasing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a third-person action shooter that looks to expand the Arkhamverse. Not only will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League move the action from the dreary streets of Gotham to the opulent skyscrapers of Metropolis, but several new heroes and villains will at long last appear in Rocksteady's world.

With three games spent exploring the characters most closely tied to Batman, Rocksteady is branching out to the titular Suicide Squad and Justice League. In regard to the former, Rocksteady has made it clear that the four members of Task Force X in Kill the Justice League's main story will not be the game's only playable characters. While Kill the Justice League's DLC characters may add some excitement to its live-service content, playable comic book villains shouldn't be its only future additions. If Rocksteady hopes to keep content fresh for the foreseeable future, it would be wise to get the heroes in on the action.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League already has four playable characters, but according to some recent rumors, two more might be on their way.

Kill the Justice League Needs To Expand Its Justice League

The focal point of Kill the Justice League's gameplay and narrative is Task Force X's mission to eliminate all members of the Justice League who are under Brainiac's mind control. So far, players know they'll have to take on Batman, Green Lantern, Superman, and the Flash, with Wonder Woman being the only League member not under Brainiac's control. While it's entirely possible that Rocksteady has kept other League members under wraps, four boss battles focused on the titular team hardly feels like enough to support an ongoing live-service title.

If Rocksteady wants to ensure Kill the Justice League can flourish long after its release, it would be wise to greatly expand its Justice League, and expand how many boss battles it has as a result. The Justice League has included dozens of different heroes over the years, in both the comics and TV projects. Some of them may not be as popular as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but their inclusion as boss battles or even friendly NPCs such as Diana could both up the stakes, and help Metropolis feel more lively.

Live-service powerhouses like Destiny 2 have shown how adding new boss battles can feel like a major event, and given the star-power behind some of the League's biggest names, the same could be done for Kill the Justice League. New Task Force X members to play with would still be a worthwhile inclusion, but if players have no more challenges to go up against once the credits roll, then there may not be much motivation to use them.

Justice League Members Who Could Be Added to Kill the Justice League

  • Aquaman
  • Martian Manhunter
  • Green Arrow
  • Black Canary
  • Hawkman
  • Hawkgirl
  • Supergirl
  • Cyborg
  • Red Tornado
  • Firestorm
  • Zatanna
  • Atom
  • Shazam
  • Doctor Fate
  • Plastic Man
  • Black Lightning
  • Blue Beetle
  • Booster Gold
  • Mister Terrific

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has an uphill battle ahead of itself, considering some of the resistance to its live-service elements. If it can incorporate a wealth of Justice League members across boss battles and NPCs, however, it may gain a strong foothold with passionate DC Comics fans. Though it isn't the type of game fans are used to seeing from Rocksteady, the developer still carries a high pedigree. It already demonstrated a strong mastery over Batman's world with the Arkham trilogy, and time will tell if Rocksteady is able to do the same with DC's wider treasure trove of heroes and villains.
