Highlights

  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature boss fights against Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman, with Wonder Woman potentially becoming brainwashed later on.
  • Rocksteady's decision to withhold Superman from the public for now is a smart move, as he is one of the most highly anticipated Justice League members.
  • Batman may have an early confrontation with Task Force X, potentially serving as a tutorial boss, and his boss fights could take inspiration from Mr. Freeze's iconic battle in Arkham City.

Based on what the game’s title suggests, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature boss fights against Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman—with Wonder Woman seemingly left out unless she becomes brainwashed later on. In fact, while she has not yet been seen with the same purple facial discolorations, it’s possible that she will eventually since it’s now been revealed that Flash starts out having escaped Brainiac, only to then become brainwashed after possibly losing a fight with an infected Green Lantern. Batman and Superman, though, are much larger enigmas.

Rocksteady withholding Superman for now is brilliant since he’s arguably the Justice League member that fans are most excited to see and learn about besides Batman. Superman is easily the most powerful and may have an incredibly difficult boss fight as a result, even if it seems like Wonder Woman will be there to aid players in some way. Batman, on the other hand, looks like he could have a boss fight much sooner than fans may have previously believed. Otherwise, there may be some footage obscuring going on at Rocksteady for what’s been shown lately.

Batman Seems to Be Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Tutorial Boss

Batman Might Have an Early Confrontation in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

If true, the first Suicide Squad Insider seems to suggest that Task Force X runs into a Brainiac-infected Batman before they even get up and into the Hall of Justice and emerge into Metropolis’ open world. This is suggested by Task Force X still wearing their default inmate attire, particularly Harley as she runs through a familiarly red-lit corridor in a loosened straitjacket.

It’s possible that this could be a representation of a later sequence where the player simply chose to revert back to Harley’s default skin, but because this footage was shown in the Insider meant to focus on story details, it would seem like Batman appears as a tutorial boss of some sort. Even if Batman’s a tutorial boss that they must flee from there’s still a high likelihood that he returns as an actual boss players battle later on, but there’s a unique way Rocksteady could approach his boss design either way, and that’s by taking the same mechanical cues it lifted from Arkham City’s Mr. Freeze boss fight.

Batman’s Boss Fight Should Emulate Mr. Freeze’s from Arkham City

Mr. Freeze’s boss fight became instantly iconic because it was far different from any other boss fight in the franchise. In it, players need to display a mastery of Batman’s individual gadgets and combat techniques since each attack or equipment usage only works once. Therefore, players could perform a silent takedown from behind, land a line launcher kick, or incapacitate Mr. Freeze by firing an electric shot at a nearby generator, but those same tactics would be prevented thereafter and players would need to be creative in their arsenal.

As a tutorial boss in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it would be fairly neat to teach players how to shoot while they frantically scan their surroundings for a looming Batman. It would also be fun if players were left to remember how Batman behaves and know when to look for a gargoyle perch above or a floor grate below.

It’s currently unknown how many times Batman will be encountered or what these encounters might look like. That said, Mr. Freeze’s boss fight would be a huge punch of nostalgia that finally lets players be wary as Batman’s prey—outside the deceased Arkham Origins multiplayer, of course.
