Highlights

  • Batman will follow the player around the open world of Metropolis in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, adding an interesting dynamic to the game.
  • Players will be in the role of Batman's target, with the Caped Crusader stalking and studying them from a distance before an eventual boss battle.
  • Rocksteady has hinted at Batman's tactics in the game, including the use of Scarecrow's Fear Toxin and potentially a gun, as players try to stop Brainiac and the brainwashed Justice League.

Fans who got to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League ahead of its launch next month have noticed an interesting tidbit about the game’s version of Batman: he will follow the player around the open world of Metropolis as only The Dark Knight can. Rocksteady held a closed alpha test for Suicide Squad back in November, allowing a small group of players to try the game out for themselves while Rocksteady tested its online servers. Rocksteady and WB Games also held a special preview event for Suicide Squad recently, allowing press members and social media influencers to play through the first few hours.

As its name implies, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League pits players against the brainwashed members of the Justice League, including the one and only Batman. Bruce Wayne’s involvement in Suicide Squad was initially unclear due to the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight, but it would eventually be confirmed that Batman is one of the heroes being controlled by Brainiac - with the late Kevin Conroy reprising his legendary role one final time after his passing in 2022. This in itself is an interesting premise, as it puts players in the role of the Caped Crusader’s target after stepping into his dark mantle during the Batman: Arkham games.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Could Be Teasing the Return of a Major Villain

Rocksteady's upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could be teasing the return of a major Arkhamverse villain.

A boss battle against Batman has already been glimpsed in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s many pre-launch trailers, and it seems that The Dark Knight will have an even greater presence than initially thought. Content creator Laajune was one of the few who got to play Suicide Squad during the recent preview event, and they noticed the silhouette of Batman lurking on top of a Wonder Woman statue in the distance while exploring Metropolis. Laajune spotted him again on a nearby rooftop a few moments later, and even caught the Caped Crusader taking off aboard his Batwing.

As any fan of Rocksteady's Arkhamverse games can attest, one of Batman’s hallmarks is his tendency to study his enemies from a distance before challenging them in battle, and it seems that this will be faithfully represented in Suicide Squad. Fans have already gotten the chance to play as The Dark Knight across all four main series Batman: Arkham titles, where one of the primary gameplay tenets was stalking criminals from the shadows using stealth. Judging from Laajune’s shared gameplay footage, Suicide Squad will flip this on its head by casting the player in the unfortunate role of Batman’s prey in the open-world hunting ground of Metropolis.

Some of Suicide Squad’s pre-release trailers have offered a small preview of the tactics Batman will use during the inevitable boss battle with him, such as Scarecrow’s signature Fear Toxin and even what looks like a gun. Now that Rocksteady has lifted some of the restrictions of the NDA fans had to sign before the closed alpha, there will likely be even more information about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League during the wait for February 2, including more of the now-villainous Batman spying on Task Force X and plotting his eventual attack.
