Street Fighter 6 has been confirmed to make an appearance at San Diego TwitchCon. Since its announcement in February, fighting game fans have been curious as to how the newest entry in the series will turn out. The aesthetic changes and new gameplay additions make Street Fighter 6 a fresh, new title for fans of the genre. Its appearance at TwitchCon shows Capcom’s push for the newest entry to garner as much of the spotlight before its release in 2023.
Street Fighter 5 was an exciting new entry in the long-running series that introduced new mechanics and new characters for the fanbase to sink their teeth into. Additions such as V-Triggers and other similarly named mechanics made gameplay much more tactical. However, after years of Street Fighter 5, a new entry was due to make its appearance, especially after the introduction of the character Luke. Upon his announcement, Capcom said that he would represent how Street Fighter 6 would play.
Street Fighter 6’s presence at TwitchCon was announced by the Street Fighter Twitter account on September 28. Attendees will be able to play a demo of the game that features eight of Street Fighter 6's playable cast, including Ryu, Ken, Juri, Kimberly, Chun-Li, Guile, Jaime, and Luke. While no other information on the demo has been revealed yet, it more than likely will be a vertical slice of what the full game will actually be.
It seems Capcom is making bold moves with the aesthetic and presentation of Street Fighter 6. The urban-hip hop style of this entry hearkens back to Third Strike’s similar aesthetic, albeit with more of a lean on hip hop this time. The Street Fighter 6 characters that have been revealed are bold, colorful, and expressive, which is necessary for any fighting game worth its salt. Even though Luke’s announcement in Street Fighter V was relatively unexciting, it is refreshing to see him contrasted alongside the rest of the new cast.
The push for Street Fighter 6’s spotlight shows confidence in its newest entry in the illustrious series. Players can expect a fresh new take on the established formula and its spin on beloved characters. Even if Ken’s initial reveal was shocking for some, it's clear that Capcom has learned from his appearance in Street Fighter 5. Everyone returning looks great, and the new characters make the expected season passes exciting.
Street Fighter 6 is set to release in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
