Capcom's reveal of Street Fighter 6 last month took fans by surprise as the trailer showed off a vastly different look for the long-running fighting game franchise. The newest Street Fighter will feature revamped appearances for series staples like Ryu and Chun-Li as well as a new open-world World Tour story mode, said to draw inspiration from Shenmue. With the game reportedly set to release next year, many fans have been eagerly anticipating their first chance to play the new Street Fighter.

Capcom has also revealed several technical changes coming to Street Fighter 6 since its debut at June's State of Play. Capcom confirmed shortly after the June reveal that Street Fighter 6's online play will feature rollback netcode, a popular feature for fighting games, as well as crossplay between platforms. Street Fighter 6 will also offer a revamped control scheme allowing players to choose between classic Street Fighter gameplay and a more streamlined combo system. Now, Capcom has officially revealed Street Fighter 6 will be playable as a part of the upcoming EVO Championship Series.

Street Fighter 6's playable demo at EVO should come as little surprise given the franchise's storied history with the competitive event. EVO began as a tournament circuit for Street Fighter games before expanding into other franchises in the early 2000s. Street Fighter games have appeared at EVO every year since the tournament's debut with Capcom often revealing new updates about Street Fighter games during the tournament. EVO general manger Rick Thiher expressed the organization's excitement at giving fans "the opportunity to check out Street Fighter 6."

Alongside the plethora of gameplay changes set to come to Street Fighter 6, the newest Street Fighter will also look to progress the story of the franchise. Street Fighter 6's initial trailers have shown off a scruffier Ryu with Capcom confirming Street Fighter 6's story will place it as a sequel to Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Capcom had also previously revealed that Ryu will be receiving a new theme song for Street Fighter 6. Street Fighter 6 will look to usher in a new era for the iconic fighting game series when it releases next year.

Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
