Despite many expecting development on Street Fighter 5 to have wound down to a close by now, the game still has at least a year's worth of support planned by Capcom. Only yesterday did it announce four of the five new DLC characters planned for release, alongside new costumes, stages, and balance tweaks, with the final additions to come in Fall 2021.

With all this extra Street Fighter 5 content in the works, it may have some wondering what's going on with the as-of-yet unannounced Street Fighter 6, which has also been rumored alongside Marvel vs Capcom 4.

According to the latest rumor, the game was supposed to release next year in 2021 but has been pushed back, resulting in the extra DLC for Street Fighter 5. This comes from a relatively reputable Capcom insider, Dusk Golem, who claims that early builds of Street Fighter 6 weren't being received well either internally or with testers.

Apparently, there was too heavy of a focus on some kind of team mechanic and the director, Yoshinori Ono (who is also executive producer for Street Fighter 5) has been demoted, with a new director put in charge to "fix" it.

Dusk Golem didn't name the new director, but did state that she is a well-known figure within the fighting game community, with some theorizing that it's Midori Yuasa.

As always, we suggest taking these rumors with a grain of salt, though with the continued Street Fighter 5 support, we probably shouldn't expect to hear anything to do with a sequel until after all the new content is released.

Street Fighter 5 is available on PC and PlayStation 4.
