August 3 is going to be a big day for RPG fans with the release of Baldur's Gate 3, so much so that the upcoming indie title Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical has decided to push back its launch date in order to make room for Larian's hotly anticipated game. While not standard practice, purposefully delaying a game to avoid it being released at the same time as a bigger game isn't something unprecedented, as demonstrated in late 2020 when some games delayed their launch dates to dodge Cyberpunk 2077.Stray Gods is the latest creation of Dragon Age's creator David Gaider as well as the debut title from the Australia-based Summerfall Studios, where Gaider is co-founder and creative director. The narrative RPG was first announced in 2019 through the now-defunct crowdfunding platform Fig. Back then, the game made waves under the title Chorus: An Adventure Musical, but it was later renamed to Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical in 2022.RELATED: Baldur's Gate 3: It Could Take 18 Playthroughs to See Everything on a Single CharacterStray Gods was originally due to launch on August 3, but the team has decided to revise the date to August 10. "We want everyone to have ample space to check out Stray Gods when it launches. Baldur's Gate 3 is hotly anticipated (by us, too!) and we want to give our fans room to celebrate Stray Gods," as explained by Summerfall Studios through its official Twitter account. Furthermore, the team also plans to take advantage of the short delay to make sure the game runs well across all platforms.

One week is unlikely to be enough for most players to finish Baldur's Gate 3 and move on to other titles. Larian has recently confirmed that on average, most players will need around 75 to 100 hours to complete a single playthrough in Baldur's Gate 3. While the timing is far from ideal, Summerfall Studios certainly hopes that it's enough for players to give Stray Gods a try while they are taking a break from Baldur's Gate 3, before supposedly diving into another playthrough.

Regardless, the short delay has to make do for Stray Gods as the release schedule is only going to get even more packed after that. Moving the launch date closer to September will place Stray Gods in a similar quandary as it has to avoid another behemoth title that is Starfield. Baldur's Gate 3 itself moved from its original launch date so as to avoid competing directly with Starfield.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical will release on August 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
